Estimator – Underground Utilities
Austin, TX, Up to $160k base + benefits + sign-on bonus
A well-established, self-performing underground utilities contractor in Austin is looking to add an experienced Estimator to its preconstruction team. This role is suited to someone who already understands either public-sector or private wet utilities work and can independently lead estimates on complex projects across Central Texas.
This is a key hire for the business and offers strong compensation, long-term stability, and the opportunity to play a direct role in winning and shaping major municipal projects.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead the preparation of detailed, competitive estimates for site-prep, water, wastewater, and storm drainage projects
- Analyze plans, specifications, and bid documents to fully define scope, risk, and pricing strategy
- Perform and oversee quantity takeoffs for underground utilities, including water, sanitary, and storm systems
- Develop accurate labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor pricing based on self-perform capabilities
- Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and supplier quotes
- Identify risk, constructability issues, and value-engineering opportunities during the bid phase
- Prepare complete bid packages and support final bid submissions
- Maintain and utilize historical cost data to improve accuracy and consistency across bids
- Collaborate with leadership during go / no-go decisions and bid reviews
