Are you ready to influence the environmental consulting industry at the highest level? ERM is seeking a Technical Consulting Director, Engineer (Sediment Site Investigation & Risk Assessment) to join our Pacific Northwest team and lead transformative projects that protect ecosystems and communities. This is more than a technical role—it’s a strategic leadership opportunity to grow a practice, mentor top talent, and deliver innovative solutions for complex sediment challenges.

This position offers flexibility : work from a local ERM office in a hybrid capacity or fully remote if you’re 100+ miles from an ERM office. For senior professionals, this can be a Partner-track opportunity —a chance to elevate your career with a global sustainability leader.

Sediment remediation is critical to restoring waterways and safeguarding public health. ERM’s Site Investigation and Remediation Management (SI / RM) team tackles the toughest marine and freshwater sediment sites using cutting‑edge digital tools and data analytics. As Technical Director, you’ll set the vision, lead high‑profile projects, and expand ERM’s influence in the marketplace.

  • Drive strategic growth of ERM’s sediment SI / RM practice regionally and nationally.
  • Deliver innovative solutions across the contaminated site lifecycle—from investigation to remedy implementation.
  • Build trusted client relationships and secure major programs / contracts.
  • Mentor and inspire a team of technical experts while shaping ERM’s global best practices.

What You’ll Bring

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Chemical, or Civil Engineering (or related discipline). Or equivalent experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • 8+ years of experience in sediment site investigation / remediation and remedial design for CERCLA or similar projects.
  • Proven track record managing large, complex sediment projects.
  • Strong communication, strategic thinking, and leadership skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of regulatory frameworks and recognized technical expertise.
  • Ability to travel for client meetings and site visits.
  • Driver's License Required : This position requires a valid driver's license and / or the ability to operate a company vehicle due to the nature of job duties, which include frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area.
  • This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.
  • Preferred

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Environmental, Chemical, or Civil Engineering.
  • 15+ years of experience in sediment remediation and CERCLA-style projects.
  • 10+ years managing large-scale sediment programs.
  • Litigation experience related to sediment sites.
  • Established client relationships and business development success.
  • Key Responsibilities

  • Lead feasibility studies, remedial designs, and strategies for sediment remediation sites.
  • Provide strategic advice and technical leadership for complex projects.
  • Collaborate with ERM’s global SI / RM network to share best practices and deliver multidisciplinary solutions.
  • Ensure projects meet scope, budget, and quality standards.
  • Expand ERM’s SI / RM services through business development and proposal leadership.

  • Build and maintain client relationships that drive repeat business and market growth.
  • Support cross-selling of ERM’s broader services, including nature-based solutions.
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop technical staff for long‑term success.

    For the Technical Consulting Director, Engineer (Sediment Site Investigation & Risk Assessment) position, the anticipated annual base pay is $152,572 – $190,976 (USD). Actual pay will depend on factors such as education, experience, skills, location, performance, and business needs. In some cases, pay may fall outside this range. This role may be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed term / flex force employees are not bonus eligible).

    We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including paid time off, parental leave, medical, dental, vision, life, disability, AD&D insurance, 401(k) or RRSP / DPSP, and other applicable benefits to eligible employees.

    Note : Bonuses, commissions, and other forms of additional compensation are not guaranteed and subject to the sole discretion of ERM and its policies and procedures.
