Position Summary

Heavy Equipment, Diesel Truck / Tractor, Trailer and forklift mechanic providing maintenance for MEI fleet of forklifts (6k lb. to Versa Lift 60 / 80k), Peterbilt and KW tractors and Landoll / KS RGN flatbed trailers.

Essential Job Duties And Responsibilities

Mid-level mechanic work on diesel vehicles, routine PM service, brake service and hydraulic systems.

Determine vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests, identifying worn and damaged parts.

Basic knowledge of operating equipment (Forklifts, man lifts, mobile platform lifts, etc.).

Keep equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion; completing winterization procedures.

Verify vehicle performance by conducting test drives, adjusting controls and systems.

Maintain vehicle records by annotating services and repairs.

Keep shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for extensive and complex repairs.

Contain costs by using warranty, evaluating service and parts options.

Keep supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.

Enhance maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Complete housekeeping duties in assigned area or project area daily and / or when required.

Minimum Qualifications (Experience, Skills, And Education)

High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Minimum two (2) years proven fleet mechanic experience (Heavy Equipment and Vehicles).

Minimum of one (1) year of intermediate skills working in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications (Experience, Skills, And Education)

Construction industry experience.

Ability to use precision measuring tools and equipment, hand, power, and pneumatic tools.

Rigging experience.

Physical Requirements And Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may frequently climb ladders or stairs, stand; walk; sit; lift and / or move up to 50 pounds; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; use fingers and hands to adjust straps, move equipment and perform daily duties; reach with hands and arms; pull handles and grasp equipment; talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The mechanic subject to possible exposure to extreme year‑round outdoor environmental conditions and may also be subject to working weekends and holidays. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; may be exposed to risk of electrical shock and vibration, and high levels of noise.
