Workplace Classification :

Hybrid : This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the candidate is expected to report to their primary work location three times per week, at minimum, or other frequency dictated by the business.

You’ll join GM’s Vision and Automation Services (VAAS) group, where we’re building real-time AI applications that impact safety, quality, and productivity across global plants. We’re looking for Technical Fellows to help shape the future of manufacturing by leading the design and deployment of cutting-edge AI systems – including computer vision, large language models (LLMs), and vision-language models (VLMs).

What You'll Do (Responsibilities) :

• Sets the org-wide bar for engineering excellence and quality.
• Challenges assumptions and drives high-impact technical decisions.
• Leads cross-functional alignment across software, data, hardware, safety, and security.
• Owns outcomes across programs and platforms, including risk, quality, and long-term maintainability.
• Scales expertise through mentorship, playbooks, and knowledge sharing.
• Provides authoritative AI / ML leadership on architecture design, evaluation, robustness, and explain ability.
• Delivers invention and platform solutions with measurable business and customer value.
• Owns end-to-end technical strategy and architecture; defines critical requirements and Non-Functional Requirements (NFRs).
• Directs complex design reviews and trade studies; records decisions through Architecture Decision Record (ADRs).
• Balances system requirements across performance, safety, reliability, cost, and compliance.
• Defines and enforces org-wide standards and best practices (testing, CI / CD, MLOps / data governance).
• Acts as a force multiplier : mentors senior / staff, raises the hiring bar, and leads critical postmortems.

Compensation :

The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of New York, Colorado, California, or Washington.

The salary range for this role is $234,000 - $358,500. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.

Bonus Potential : An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
