Job Title : Bar Manager

Location : Williamsville NY

Department : Food & Beverage

The Bar Manager will work closely with the entire Food and Beverage Department; including the Catering Director Banquet Manager and Food & Beverage Manager. They will oversee the bar operation as it relates to the a la carte restaurant private parties as well as member functions. This role is required to work evenings holidays and weekends. The Bar Manager will oversee a team of bar staff ranging from 5-10 people pending the season. They are responsible for the recruitment and hiring of all bar team members as well as leading training for staff. The Bar Manager plays an important role in the ongoing training of the team. They will be responsible for communicating and holding staff accountable to all CCB standards. They must have a passion for building strong professional relationships with the members as well as their team.

The Country Club of Buffalo is the premier country club in Western New York. The Club is rich in tradition and heritage with many legacy families enjoying membership for generations. The Country Club of Buffalo features a challenging Donald Ross designed golf course which is consistently ranked and recognized nationally. The Clubs amenities include golf tennis swimming trap skeet five-stand and brushwalk sport shooting six overnight guest rooms and paddle tennis. The Duane Lyman designed Clubhouse encompasses 55000 square feet featuring stately living rooms three dining rooms and various private party rooms. The Clubs revenues are approximately $9 million annually including $3 million in food and beverage.

Requirements

BAR MANAGER KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures service execution exceeds member expectations at the bar; including timeliness quality cleanliness and communication.
  • Greets members and guests and establishes a professional rapport with the members. Learn member preferences and ensure they are met when they are on property.
  • Directly supervises all bar employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws.
  • Develops weekly schedule for entire bar team. Consults with Catering and Banquet Managers on staffing needs for events. Held accountable for scheduling based on business volume while also being mindful of monthly payroll budget.
  • Holds meetings with bar staff to ensure smooth efficient service; assigns responsibilities and coordinates the accurate execution of service.
  • Maintains a neat professional appearance in accordance with the dress code established by the Club. Enforces dress code standards to their team. Ensures staff are well groomed and in proper uniform at all times.
  • Responsible for initial and continual staff training. Develops and implements staff training manuals and programs.
  • Helps to develop and execute new service standards.
  • Responsible for updating bar items on the POS system.
  • Actively participates in weekly food and beverage and catering meetings.
  • Assures proper inventory of all bar supplies including but not limited to glassware bar utensils wine bags coolers etc.
  • Actively develops cocktail lists updates the wine list researches new trends and ideas to implement to enhance the beverage program.
  • Responsible for maintaining proper safety standards adherence to safety policies and applicable Health Department regulations. Responsible for safety information and trainings as it relates to the beverage team.
  • Assures the neatness and cleanliness of all bar areas. Keep the bars cleaned and stocked. Makes notes of equipment issues. Keeps all storage areas for beverages clean and organized. Creates SOPs so that all team members can maintain these standards.
  • Maintains accurate records of staff disciplinary issues. Performs annual reviews for all full time and part time staff.
  • Assures the state and local laws and the Clubs policies and procedures for the service and consumption of alcoholic beverages are consistently followed.
  • Responsible for upholding the mission policies and culture of Country Club of Buffalo including the operational bylaws and employee handbook.
  • Completion of projects and tasks as assigned by the Assistant General Manager.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of members or employees of the Club.

BAR MANAGER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree (B.A / B.S) or equivalent from a two year college or technical school; or 4-5 years related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Hospitality degree is preferred.
  • Must be continuously certified in the intervention training for the responsible sale service and use of alcohol. (TIPS or related certification).
  • Jonas Club Management Software proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word Excel Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand walk and use hands. The employee must regularly lift and / or move up to 15 pounds frequently lift and / or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move up to 50 pounds.
