SECTION 3 CUSTODIAN
Position Summary
This position reports to the Property Manager and is responsible for the daily general cleaning, sanitizing and appearance of the housing development(s) to which he / she is assigned. Immediate supervision is received from the Property Manager, Maintenance Supervisor or his / her designee.
Position Description
- Sweeps, scrubs, waxes, polishes and vacuums in office and hallways, as appropriate.
- Keeps offices, common areas and restrooms clean and sanitary.
- Replaces light bulbs; maintains parking areas, entranceways, sidewalks and common areas free of trash and debris; empties trash receptacles; may move furniture and load / unload supplies.
- May disseminate information, i.e. newspapers, flyers and notices throughout specified areas.
- Ninety-eight percent (98%) of Custodial duties will be performed outside.
- Observes all safety rules and regulations.
- Job duties, responsibilities, specifications, and other job aspects may be changed as needed; performs other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
Knowledge of appropriate methods, materials and equipment to be used in custodial work.Ability to operate heavy equipment such as buffers, vacuum cleaners and other custodial equipment.Ability to work independently in the absence of specific instructions and exercise good judgment and initiative.Must have the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with others.Must be generally available for occasional after-hours and weekend activities. In the event of emergencies, must be accessible, preferably by phone or other effective means.Promotes a positive image of the Authority by establishing and maintaining to the greatest extent possible a viable and positive working relationship with residents, co-workers, local agencies and all appropriate agencies of the City with which the Authority may come into contact.Physical Requirements
Use of hands / fingers to handle or feel – Sufficient manual dexterity to allow operation of a variety of custodial power equipment and tools.See – Ability to observe, identify and recognize details at close range.Stand or Sit – Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.Walk, move and traverse Ability to stoop, kneel, bend, stretch, crawl and climb a ladder, etc.Stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl – Constantly positions self to perform the essential functions of the job duties.Move, transport, position, install, remove – Frequently moves items weighing up to 50 pounds across areas for various needs.Experience and Training
Any combination of education and experience necessary to carry out oral and written instructions. Previous custodial experience required.
