The Career & Academic Planning Department at Portland Community College (PCC) seeks a Program Dean for Career Services to join their team. The Program Dean provides college-wide leadership for career development and services, and directly supervises the Career Services staff on all PCC campuses. Reporting to the Dean of Career & Academic Planning, the Program Dean ensures the development and implementation of a holistic support model that supports students in career exploration, decision making, work-based learning, job search skills, and lifelong learning.

This role will have a deep understanding of the unique challenges facing community colleges and will bring a commitment to serving students in a connected and collaborative model. This role will leverage technology and research-based practices in operations while centering the most marginalized students in programming, outreach, and communications to achieve the vision of equitable student success.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Program Development

  • Articulate and implement a strategic vision for career services that moves beyond transactional job placement and towards a holistic developmental model (career readiness, decision-making, and lifelong learning).
  • Lead and develop career exploration and development curriculum / interventions that are embedded within academic pathways.
  • Provides strategic and operational leadership and accountability for the College-wide delivery of high-quality and high-impact career services.

  • Uses career / labor market data to inform program development, evaluate effectiveness, and advocate for resources.
  • Partnerships & Workforce Alignment

  • Build and maintain high-value relationships with regional employers to create internships, clinical placements, and apprenticeship opportunities directly relevant to the college's academic programs.
  • Collaborate directly with academic deans and faculty to align career services with instruction and student support.
  • Partners to solve problems and builds strong relationships across myriad disciplines and functional areas to advance institutional goals.
  • Operational Oversight & Compliance

  • Directly supervise the Career Services staff on all PCC campuses, including hiring, evaluating, training, and disciplining staff as necessary.
  • Ensure staff knowledge of, and institutional compliance with, federal, state, and College regulations, policies, and guidance related to career and employment services.

  • Advance institutional Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) goals by creating inclusive and equitable career services programs.
  • Develop policies and practices that promote culturally responsive career services.
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of the comprehensive mission of a community college and a commitment to equity-focused career services that address the needs of diverse student populations (e.g., first-generation, low-income, adult learners).

  • Successful track record of building and maintaining high-value relationships with regional employers to create internships, clinical placements, and apprenticeship opportunities directly relevant to the college's academic programs.
  • Minimum Qualifications :

  • Master's Degree in Counseling, Psychology, Human Resources, Education, Administration, or related field with five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience in student services, advising, career services, or related fields; OR Bachelor's Degree with seven (7) years of progressively responsible professional experience in student services, advising, career services, or related fields.
  • Three (3) years of management / supervisory experience.

  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing career exploration and development curriculum embedded within academic pathways.
  • Proven ability to articulate and implement a strategic vision for career services that moves towards a holistic developmental model.
  • Successful track record of building and maintaining high-value relationships with regional employers.

  • Work Environment :

  • Office setting with occasional evening and weekend commitments.
  • Regular travel to institutional and community partner sites may be required.

    How We Determine Initial Salary Placement

    The initial salary placement typically is between the minimum ($113,994) to the range midpoint ($139,642). Placement will generally not exceed the mid-point, based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
