POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Resident Care (DRC) plays an essential leadership role at Hartwell Place, a small intimate memory care community nestled in the Chicago neighborhood of Andersonville. The DRC manages the day-to-day health care related administrative functions, provides direct wellness care oversite to residents in accordance to service plans, and ensures standard policies and procedures including state and federal regulations are followed. The DRC also assures timely identification of acute medical problems, contributes to the safety, comfort and wellbeing of residents, and is responsible for the infection prevention and control program (IPCP). This position will work closely with other Chicago Methodist Senior Services' personnel across the continuum of care.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

- Responsible for consistently demonstrating and ensuring person-centered customer service.
Nurse on Duty
- Focus on optimizing function of all residents through care practices that ensure the highest possible function and quality of life of the individual
- Serves as nurse on duty at least five shifts per week (with exception of vacations and illness). Occasionally covers open shifts when no other nurse are available.
- Assists in the assessment and administration of new residents to ensure proper orders for diet, therapy medication etc. are transcribed and communicated and a comprehensive service plan is developed.
- Observes and evaluates residents' medical, mental and emotional conditions. Reports and documents any significant changes to appropriate staff, ensuress changes are appropriately service planned, and informs physician and family members according to procedures.
Infection Preventionist
- Maintains current knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations.
- Ensures the leadership and direct care staff (all departments) are well-trained through both regular in-services as well as in-the-moment training and they demonstrate competency in infection prevention.
- Investigates outbreaks to study potential causes as well as appropriateness of the response.
Nurse Supervisor
- Prepares and oversees nursing schedule, coordinating with other nurses to ensure all shifts are covered.
- Coaches staff on areas of improvement and provide positive reinforcement for job well-done.
- Maintains security of all medications within the facility, ensuring the inventory of all medications and records as needed. Reviews Medication Log for accuracy.
- Assists in the training and onboarding process of new team members (nurses and RAs) and reinforces training standards to maintain a high quality.
- Participates in monthly quality improvement meetings, ensuring quality improvement documents are up to date and easily accessible to staff.
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS and EXPERIENCE

This position requires a degree from an accredited school of nursing
- Licensed by the State of Illinois as a registered (RN)

Two years of professional nursing experience in geriatric, restorative and/or rehabilitative nursing is preferred
