Job Summary

We are seeking motivated individuals for an entry-level Inspector Trainee position. This role offers a great opportunity to receive hands-on training in inspection and sampling tasks performed in the field. You will learn to complete necessary paperwork, accurately distribute samples, and maintain effective communication with our office staff.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Complete all required safety and orientation training to access customer facilities.
  • Shadow a senior inspector or designated trainer to learn the basics of inspection and sampling.
  • Familiarize yourself with and adhere to all procedures outlined by the American Petroleum Institute (API), International Federation of Inspection Agencies (IFIA), and specific customer and company policies.
  • Perform basic inspection and sampling tasks as assigned, including physical product measurement, temperature readings, sampling, and volume calculations.
  • Carry out all assigned tasks in line with industry standards and supervisor instructions, maintaining timely communication with the office regarding any changes to initial plans.
  • Prepare and distribute field reports to vessels, terminals, and office staff as directed.
  • Ensure proper identification and timely transportation of samples collected during your activities.
  • Assist with additional tasks as needed and assigned by your supervisor.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or relevant experience in the industry.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in various units of measure.
  • Proficiency in basic computer programs, including word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Must have access to a licensed and insured vehicle in safe operating condition for job-related transportation. A valid driving license that complies with AmSpec's Safe Driving Policy is required.
  • Availability for job assignments at any time, including scheduled days off, with potential overtime to meet branch office needs.
  • Willingness to work in refineries, terminals, and on-board marine vessels as necessary.
  • Must be responsive to communications from the office and available at all times.
  • Attendance at monthly safety meetings is mandatory.
  • A TWIC Card might be needed for access to terminals, refineries, and other facilities.
  • Working Conditions

    Employees may encounter fumes, airborne particles, and hazardous chemicals, but AmSpec provides essential product information, training, and protective equipment to safeguard against exposure. Work is conducted outdoors in all weather conditions, including refineries, terminals, and on marine vessels, with potential high noise levels. Local and possibly long-distance travel may be required.

    Physical Requirements

  • This is a safety-sensitive position subject to pre-employment, random, and annual drug and alcohol testing.
  • Compliance with AmSpec's D&A Policy is required.
  • Aim to pass an annual Pulmonary Fitness Test.
  • Undergo a physical examination as needed to confirm your ability to perform job functions.
  • Qualify for an annual Respirator Fit Test.
  • Pass a designated blood test to work in areas with Hydrocarbon Vapors.
  • Ability to perform inspection duties while wearing safety equipment under varying weather conditions.
  • Physical capabilities to stand, handle objects, communicate, and detect odors.
  • Ability to walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach regularly.
  • Capability to climb storage tank ladders and stairs (up to 100 feet high) while carrying inspection gear.
  • Comfortable working in confined spaces with appropriate safety equipment.
