Summary :

  • We are seeking a Sustaining Mechanical Engineer with strong SolidWorks and mechanical design experience to support the development of advanced propulsion systems and spacecraft components.
  • This role will involve both new product development and sustaining engineering, with a focus on making necessary adjustments to in-progress projects to optimize performance, manufacturability, and reliability.
  • The ideal candidate will play a key role in designing, analyzing, testing, and refining mechanical assemblies for spaceflight applications.

    • How you will make an impact :

  • Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies using SolidWorks.
  • Perform structural and thermal analyses to ensure the integrity of spaceflight hardware.
  • Generate detailed engineering drawings, GD&T, and documentation for manufacturing.
  • Support sustaining engineering efforts, making design modifications and refinements to ongoing projects as needed.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including electrical and propulsion engineers, to integrate mechanical designs into larger systems.
  • Support prototype fabrication, assembly, and testing to validate designs.
  • Conduct trade studies to optimize designs for performance, weight, and manufacturability.
  • Work with vendors and machinists to source and manufacture precision aerospace components.
  • Ensure designs meet spaceflight requirements, including vacuum compatibility, thermal stability, and structural integrity.

    • Required skills :

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience in mechanical design, preferably in the aerospace industry or other high-tech fields.
  • Strong experience in sustaining engineering, including adjusting and improving designs of in-progress projects.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks, including part and assembly modeling, drawings, and design for manufacturability.
  • Experience with FEA analysis tools (e.g., ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation) for structural and thermal evaluations.
  • Familiarity with aerospace hardware considerations, such as materials selection, vibration testing, and thermal management.
  • Experience with NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports) and ECOs (Engineering Change Orders).
  • Strong vendor experience, particularly in working with aerospace machine shops.
  • Ability to conduct vendor calls and coordinate component sourcing.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • The expected salary range for this position is  $85,000 - $150,000.
  • Actual compensation will be determined by the candidate’s experience, education, and alignment with organizational needs.
