The Sustainability Coordinator works with faculty, staff, students, and other partners to promote sustainability on the Luther College campus and in the community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Campus Operations:- Climate Neutrality: Work with partners to explore and develop strategies for meeting Luther’s climate neutrality timetable, including seeking resources to accelerate climate reduction efforts.
- Conservation: Work with partners to develop and promote a culture of conservation on campus among students, faculty, and staff.
- Waste: Develop and implement strategies to achieve reductions in campus energy usage and solid waste disposal through the creation and implementation of a zero-waste plan.
- Food: Work with Sodexo to support sustainable food efforts, including local purchasing, plant based options and the Cafeteria to Community Program.
- Transportation: coordinate EV initiatives, bikeshare and other transportation initiatives with campus partners
Monitoring and Reporting:
- Coordinate data collection and reporting related to the AASHE Sustainability Tracking and Recording System (STARS)
- Assist with solidifying sustainability goals and monitoring progress on these goals.
Student Engagement:- Work with partners to integrate sustainability into student life programming and to engage students through diverse programming
- Work with student workers to implement programming (with a focus on first year students) to promote sustainable behaviors and connection to place
- Manage the sustainability scholars program and assist with programming and outreach for high school students and teachers
- Partner with other campus entities to develop and implement initiatives to increase a sense of belonging among all individuals and groups on campus
Employee Outreach:- Implement sustainability orientation for all new staff and maintain the network of staff sustainability advocates
- Manage the CSA Program, community gardens and other sustainability pro.
- Facilitate sustainability and wellness education opportunities for all members of the campus community throughout the year.
- Partner with other campus entities to develop and implement initiatives to increase a sense of belonging among all individuals and groups on campus
Communication:- Manage communication initiatives for the Center, including e-newsletters, website, social media and other media.
- Coordinate participation in sustainability conferences and other regional opportunities.
Supervision:
- Hire and supervise sustainability student workers for the academic year and summer.
- Oversee the student recycling coordinator and student workers to manage compost and recycling.
Other responsibilities as assigned EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:- Bachelor’s degree required
- 2+ years of experience with sustainability in higher education or equivalent, related experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Experience with project and people management
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:- Some lifting; majority of work will be in an office environment
