Job Description

The College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Hartford is seeking to fill a clinical/applied assistant professor position in Psychology beginning August 2026. Candidates are expected to teach and advise students in psychology with a focus on the Diversity and Social Justice concentration.

Responsibilities

The successful applicant will ordinarily teach courses related to the new undergraduate psychology major concentration in diversity and social justice. Courses may include Psychology of Gender, Multicultural Psychology, Human Sexual Behavior, Psychology of Prejudice, Introduction to Psychology, and others in the candidate's area of expertise. It is expected that the successful candidate will expand the course offerings in this concentration. The candidate will teach a 3-3 course load and will oversee the concentration in diversity and social justice. A commitment to mentoring students in honors theses and promoting student research opportunities is preferred, as well as applied work in the fields of psychology, advocacy, social services, and public policy. Scholarship of teaching and learning, as well as involving students in research, is welcome. There may also be opportunities to teach our innovative general education and interdisciplinary courses. The ideal candidate will demonstrate professional productivity as evidenced by sustained excellence and innovation in their clinical/applied practice, contributions to the profession through publications, presentations, or other publicly disseminated work, as well as service to academic, professional, or Hartford area communities. Service to the department, college, and university typically includes advising students, contributing to student recruitment and retention, and working closely with our internship coordinator to facilitate internships and applied experiences in the field of psychology, diversity, and social justice. Candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment to inclusive excellence, which the University defines as an unwavering commitment to fostering a vibrant campus community where every student, staff member, and faculty colleague feels deeply rooted, empowered to flourish, and inspired to achieve their highest potential. The initial Clinical/Applied contract is 1-2 years and subsequent longer-term contracts are based on review of performance and the continuing need for the position.

Required Qualifications

Required
Candidates must have completed a doctorate in psychology or a related discipline by the time of appointment.

Preferred

Strong experience teaching undergraduates and supporting student learning.

Research or applied experience and commitment to diversity and social justice.

Commitment and ability to mentor and actively engage undergraduate students and to build the concentration in diversity and social justice.

Interpersonal, organizational and communication skills - and ability to work with students, staff, and faculty.

Commitment to inclusive excellence and belonging.
