About the Role
The Senior CNC Programmer is responsible for the development, optimization, and implementation of complex CAD / CAM programs for high?precision casting components. This role requires mastery of CNC programming, a deep understanding of rigorous industrial engineering specifications, and a commitment to precision, operational efficiency, and safety.
Responsibilities
- Program Development : Create and refine advanced CNC machine programs using industry?standard CAD / CAM software suites.
- Machining Strategy : Develop comprehensive machining strategies for complex, high?tolerance components, ensuring they align with engineering specs and material requirements.
- Technical Instruction : Generate detailed tool paths, setup sheets, and technical instructions for multi?axis CNC mills, lathes, and integrated machining centers.
- Design Review : Analyze 3D models and technical blueprints of cast components to identify critical machining features and potential manufacturing constraints.
- Tooling & Parameters : Determine optimal tool selection and calibrate machining parameters (speeds, feeds, and depths) to maximize part quality and tool life.
- Setup & Validation : Configure CNC machines with specialized fixtures and tooling; perform initial test runs and "first?article" adjustments to programs.
- Quality Alignment : Partner with Quality Assurance to ensure all components meet strict industry standards, including dimensional accuracy and surface finish requirements.
- Data Management : Maintain rigorous documentation of program revisions, process sheets, and standard work instructions.
- Process Optimization : Continuously analyze cycle times and workflows to suggest improvements in tooling or methodology that reduce costs and increase throughput by at least 10?15%.
- Metrology Integration : Utilize measurements and in?process probing data to validate linear dimensions and calibrate fixtures during process development.
Qualifications
Education : High School Diploma or equivalent; technical degree or journeyman certification preferred.Experience : Minimum 910 years of experience in CNC programming and manufacturing engineering, specifically within high?precision industries (e.g., Aerospace, Defense, or Medical).Software Proficiency : Advanced hands?on experience with major CAD / CAM platforms (e.g., Mastercam, NX, or similar).Technical Mastery : Expert?level skill in interpreting CMM results to refine CNC programs.Advanced application of in?process probing techniques for real?time machining adjustments.Extensive experience with 4?axis and 5?axis simultaneous machining.Technical Knowledge : Deep proficiency in G?code / M?code, GD&T, and the machining characteristics of advanced alloys and aerospace?grade materials.Compliance : Familiarity with international quality standards (such as ISO 9001 or AS9100) and regulatory requirements.Seniority Level
