Structural Intern - Waterfront and Bridge - Summer 2026

Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. Moffatt & Nichol is actively looking for an Intern with Structural Engineering focus to join our Long Beach office. Interns will provide support to design engineers by being involved in engineering and administration of projects, as well as assisting in obtaining and reviewing information for marine, waterfront and bridge (depending on office location) design and analysis.

Duties and responsibilities :

• Analysis and design of waterfront structures, inspection of waterfront structures, and other maritime project tasks
• Structural analysis and design of marine structures, including but not limited to piers, wharves, bulkheads, seawalls, offshore platforms, mooring and berthing dolphins, catwalks, utility support structures, drainage structures, retaining walls, towers, and structural foundations.
• Design using timber, structural steel, reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, aluminum, and composite materials
• Assist in the development of plans, specifications, calculations, and reports as needed
• Help resolve design problems that may include performing field investigation or inspections, detailed design work, and detailed checking of design computations done by others, or general coordination of specific design aspects into a project
• Calculate construction quantity estimates
• Work closely with other architects, engineers, scientists, project managers, etc. on multi-discipline projects
• Perform structural site inspections and prepare inspection reports
• Office construction administration including review of shop drawings and technical submittals
• Perform construction site inspections and prepare inspection reports

Qualifications :

Must be entering the final year of a qualified Bachelor's degree program following the summer of employment

Sedentary for prolonged period of time, interact with clients, and travel occasionally.

Base salary range :

$24.00 to $31.00 per hour based on years of experience, level of education obtained, professional registration, and meeting the required qualifications in the job description.

Base salary range only applicable for candidates who will be hired and working in the California markets.
