I. General Summary
Works under the direct supervision of the Breast Imaging Center manager with daily activities and work schedule supervised by manager. Will perform digital screening and diagnostic mammograms and specimen radiography; will assist the radiologists in more advance procedures, , needle localizations, stereotactic and ultrasound guided biopsies. Quality mammography guidelines set forth by the American College of Radiology (ACR) and the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) must be observed.
II. Principal Responsibilities and Tasks
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.
1. Performs mammography and other breast imaging procedures for diagnostic purposes under the supervision of a radiologist. Reviews and evaluates images to determine if they are satisfactory.
2. Performs and documents patient assessment and history as it relates to breast imaging; provides patient care to meet the patient's physical and psychological needs. Performs or assists with physical breast exam for mass/nodule localization.
3. Assists physicians (radiologists, surgeons, other specialists) to perform image-guided diagnostic and invasive procedures (, stereotactic biopsy, needle localization, and ductograms)
4. Communicates with other caregivers to ensure quality, continuity and appropriateness of patient care.
5. Provides patient education related to imaging procedures, including breast self- examination techniques.
6. Applies knowledge and principles of radiation protection to achieve radiation exposures as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA) for patients, self and others.
7. Applies knowledge and principles of Universal Precautions, aseptic and sterile techniq

Qualifications1. Graduation from an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology is required. Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Advanced practice Mammography certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists is required.
2. Licensed by the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene as a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist.
3. CPR certification is required.
4. Must maintain appropriate continuing education and experience needed for licensure and certification.
5. One year experience performing breast imaging procedures is preferred, however, not required. Familiarity with both ACR and FDA accreditation practices and regulations is required.
