Job Summary:
The Analytical Laboratory Technician (Grossing Tech 2 / 3) supports the Global Diagnostics division at Client by performing routine and complex laboratory procedures to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of animal health conditions. This role involves grossing and dissection of specimens, operating laboratory equipment, maintaining accurate documentation, and ensuring compliance with laboratory standards. The Level 3 technician serves as a subject matter expert, performing complex dissections, handling necropsy cases, and assisting in training junior staff while maintaining the highest quality and accuracy standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Independently gross and dissect simple, complex level 1 panels, and complex level 2 specimens
- Accurately label and document specimens
- Follow established SOPs for tissue fixation, specimen handling, and processing
- Maintain detailed and accurate specimen handling records
- Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of laboratory equipment
- Handle and store biological specimens in accordance with ZRL Standard Operating Procedures
- Properly handle and dispose of medical and biohazardous waste in compliance with regulatory guidelines
- Complete laboratory logs including maintenance, environmental, and cleaning logs
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory workspace
- Collaborate with veterinary pathologists and laboratory personnel to ensure quality diagnostic services
Level 3 Additional Responsibilities:
- Perform necropsy cases for further diagnostic analysis
- Conduct complex and rare specimen dissections
- Lead specimen grossing activities across multiple case types daily
- Assist in training and mentoring lower-level grossing technicians and aides
Required Skills:
- Associate degree or equivalent required
- 2+ years of pathology laboratory experience (3+ years for Level 3)
- Experience performing basic grossing operations
- Strong understanding of anatomy and grossing protocols
- Proficiency in Microsoft platforms (Teams, Outlook, Word)
- Proficiency in laboratory equipment and software
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent data entry skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Fluency in English
- Ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision
Preferred Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
- Experience in the veterinary field
- Experience handling complex dissections and necropsy cases (Level 3)
Education:
Associate degree or equivalent required
