As a Lead Veterinary Technician / Assistant , you will play a key leadership role in daily hospital operations while continuing to provide hands-on patient care. You’ll support veterinarians during procedures, mentor team members, help maintain workflow efficiency, and serve as a resource for both staff and clients.
This role is ideal for someone who leads by example, communicates effectively, and is passionate about fostering a positive, supportive team culture.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include :
- Lead and support veterinary technicians and assistants during daily operations
- Assist veterinarians with exams, treatments, and surgical procedures, including proper animal restraint
- Mentor and train team members to ensure consistent standards of care and hospital protocols
- Perform and oversee medical tasks such as taking vitals, administering medications, and processing lab samples
- Ensure accurate and thorough patient records, including treatment notes and logs
- Maintain hospital cleanliness, including equipment sterilization, cage cleaning, and exam room readiness
- Support smooth appointment flow and assist during emergency situations
- Provide compassionate, professional client communication, including medication instructions and post-care guidance
- Answer client questions and assist with scheduling as needed
- Collaborate with leadership on workflow improvements and team development initiatives
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
High school diploma or GED requiredMinimum of 1 year of veterinary medicine experience required (leadership experience preferred)Strong communication and interpersonal skills with clients, doctors, and team membersFriendly, positive attitude with the ability to mentor and support othersAbility to stand, walk, and move for extended periodsAbility to lift up to 50 poundsComfortable working in a veterinary environment with potential exposure to infectious or contagious diseasesBenefits
