POSITION TYPE: Full Time/Full Year (12-Months)

SALARY GRADE: 19

HOURLY PAY RANGE: $21.97 to $22.52

LOCATION: Pico Rivera, CA


PROGRAM SUMMARY

Plaza de la Raza Child Development Services, Inc. (Plaza) is a comprehensive early childhood education program with a focus on school readiness for children zero to five years of age. Developmentally appropriate services are provided for children from low-income families, zero to five years of age. Plaza de la Raza currently serves over 650 children and their families.


DEFINITION

Under general direction this position performs a variety of custodial activities on an assigned shift, cleans and maintains an assigned educational facility, group of buildings, or office space to ensure environments are clean, orderly, and secure. This position also performs emergency cleaning when needed.


SUPERVISION RECEIVED

The Maintenance Supervisor provides general direction and supervision for this position.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Receives priority listed work orders from supervisor to carry out maintenance, repairs, or improvement to be completed.

• Sweeps scrubs, mops, seals, and waxes floors.

• Vacuums rugs and carpets in all work areas.

• Washes windows and walls.

• Replaces incandescent bulbs, fluorescent tubes, and batteries for smoke detectors.

• Dusts and polishes furniture and woodwork and pencil sharpeners.

• Dusts items in buildings as needed, including but not limited to, air conditioning vents, exhaust fans, and refrigerators.

• Picks up and discards paper and rubbish.

• Empties and cleans waste receptacles.

• Empties trash containers into large bins.

• Cleans and sanitizes restrooms including floors, walls, fixtures, appliances, and drinking fountains.

• Unclogs sinks and toilets.

• Ensures soap dispensers and towel boxes are replenished.

• Polishes metal fixtures.

• Maintains curb appeal through landscaping and gardening, minor trimming of hedges and trees, clean weeds check sprinkler timers and repair irrigation leaks as needed and assigned by supervisor.

• Reports hazardous or unusual conditions to supervisor.

• Moves furniture and equipment, sets up rooms for special events and meetings.

• Turns lights on and off.

• Unlocks and locks doors, gates, windows, and storerooms.

• Washes walkways and eating areas, removes debris and leaves.

• Cleans outdoor drinking fountains.

• Rotates sand in sandbox periodically.

• Receives, confirms, and delivers custodial, office and classroom supplies.

• Operates cleaning equipment such as floor polisher, scrubbing machines, vacuum cleaners, wall washing machines, carpet shampooers and yard vacuums.

• Removes graffiti from walls, fixtures, windows, banners etc.

• Inspects buildings for vandalism and illegal entry.

• Operates a company vehicle to pick up and deliver supplies and warehouse items as assigned.

• Inspects vehicles and reports mechanical defects and malfunctions.

• Ensures vehicles are clean inside, refueled, washed, and swept when necessary.

• Performs other duties as assigned.


JOB REQUIREMENTS


Knowledge of:

Custodial cleaning techniques and common safety practices as applied to custodial work.

Ability to:

Provide healthy and clean environments for staff, parents, and children, meet physical demands of the position with or without reasonable accommodation, demonstrate respect for individuals and groups with varied cultural, racial, ethnic, religious, and linguistic identities and backgrounds, observe vehicle codes and follow defensive driving practices.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


Education:

High School graduation or GED equivalent.


Experience:

Six months of custodial or grounds and facilities maintenance experience.


HEALTH REQUIREMENTS

• Successful completion of an initial health examination, performed by or under the supervision of a physician, to determine, at a minimum, of the prospective employee can perform requirements of the job description physical requirements.

• Proof of the absence of Tuberculosis, from a physician to that the prospective employee is cleared to work with children and families.

• Documentation of current immunizations against influenza, Measles (MMR) and Pertussis (TDAP).


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• Fingerprint clearances from the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Child Abuse Index prior to starting employment.

• Completed and signed statement of any pending and/or prior criminal arrests/charges/convictions related to child sexual abuse, child abuse and neglect, and/or violent felonies.

• Verification that determines eligibility for employment in the United States of America.

• A valid California driver’s license and the availability of private transportation or the ability to obtain transportation to perform position duties is required.

• As a mandated reporter of child abuse, must immediately report any suspected child abuse and/or neglect to Child Protective Services.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met, or are encountered, by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; smell, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to, climb, stoop, kneel, crawl, climb ladders, reach overhead, repeated bending, sit, and balance. The employee may frequently lift to knuckle and/or move a minimum of 90 pounds, frequently 50 pounds and consistently 20 pounds. Occasionally lift from knuckle to shoulder 75 pounds, frequently 50 pounds and consistently 20 pounds. Occasionally shoulder to overhead 75 pounds, frequently 50 pounds and consistently 20 pounds. Must be able to carry items to 100-foot distance with one or two hands, occasionally 80 pounds, frequently 40 pounds and consistently 20 pounds Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

humiliation.

5. Not employ methods of discipline that involve isolation, the used of food as punishment or reward, or the denial of basic

needs.

6. Not solicit or accept personal gratuities, favors or anything of significant monetary value from contractors or potential

contractors.

7. Maintain respect and promote professional relationships with the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE), families,

staff and children.

8. Refrain from the unlawful manufacture, distribution, dispensing, possession, or use of alcoholic beverage, controlled

substance, and tobacco products in the workplace or at any activity funded by federal or state funds.

9. Maintain adherence to LACOE, state, or federal mandates, including but not limited to program eligibility determination

regulations for Early Head Start, Head Start or state preschool services.

10. Enrolling pregnant women and children that are not eligible to receive Early Head Start or Head Start services.
