Monday through Friday
Elementary Schools - 6.5 hour work day (plus 30 minute unpaid lunch)
Secondary Schools - 7.0 hour work day (plus 30 minute unpaid lunch)

Reports To:
Building Administrator, Classroom Teacher(s), Special Education Director

Position Description:
The Teacher Aide would support students with a diverse range of needs and abilities in the general education and/or special education classrooms and programs.

Responsibilities May Include:

• Assisting and supporting the teacher(s) in classroom setting
• Providing one-on-one or small group support to students who may need additional assistance in subject area(s)
• Supporting student(s) with special learning needs, modifications, or accommodations as directed by classroom teacher or individualized education plans (IEPs)
• Assisting with supervision of student(s) across various settings throughout the school day
• Assisting student(s) with daily activities, as required, including helping with mobility, personal care, or communication
• Assisting student(s) with academic assignments and social-emotional development
• Performing routine clerical duties and record keeping
• Attending building and district meetings and workshops as required

• Strong communication skills and the ability to interact positively with students, teachers and staff
• Basic computer skills, including familiarity with classroom technology and educational software
• Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team
• Able to work in a collaborative environment
• Ability to understand and respond to student(s) behavior
• Dependable
• Patience, flexibility and ability to adapt to various classroom/student needs

Physical Demands:

• Able to sit, stand and move around for extended periods of time
• Ability to assist students with physical needs
• Some positions may require assisting students with physical disabilities or mobility issues

Qualifications:

• Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma plus EITHER:
  • (A) One (1) year of full time or its part time equivalent paid or volunteer equivalent experience working in a clerical capacity; OR,
  • (B) One (1) year of full time or its part time equivalent paid or volunteer equivalent experience working with children; OR
  • (C) Possession of a certificate of completion for a course for Child Care through an occupational school, The American Red Cross, or similar agency; OR
  • (D) A combination of experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B), and (C) above.

NOTE: Successful completion of one (1) year of college education beyond high school (minimum of 30 semester college credit hours) may be substituted for the one (1) year of experience
