Job Description
Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC), located in Reno, Nevada is seeking applicants for a full-time instructor for the Certified Nursing Assistant department. The primary responsibility of a Nursing Assistant Instructor is to facilitate student learning in the classroom, lab, and clinical settings. Teaching and workload assignments are scheduled throughout the academic year, and may require evening and weekend obligations at multiple physical locations including off-campus clinical settings. The curriculum will provide all state regulatory required instruction per the Nevada State Board of Nursing and Truckee Meadow Community College curriculum and policy. The Certified Nursing Program trains CNA's for the community using a range of instructional formats including in-class and online resources, and is committed to the highest professional standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Current RN license in the State of Nevada or eligible to obtain a Nevada RN License
2. Current license to teach certified nursing assistant course or eligible to obtain this license
3. Current Basic Life Support CPR and TB tests
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Experience teaching college level courses
2. Experience with distance education/web-teaching modalities
3. Proficient computer/technology experience, including with Canvas and other online learning platforms
4. Experience with curriculum development and assessment
5. Experience with personnel scheduling and management
6. Fluency in Spanish
Academic Responsibilities:
Candidates must exhibit an appreciation of, a sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds. Teaching and workload assignments are scheduled throughout the calendar year, and may require evening and weekend obligations at one or more college locations.
1. Must maintain good standing in all licensure, continuing education units, and course work
2. Teach assigned courses according to the NSBN/TMCC curriculum and syllabus
3. Teach 30 (15/15) credit or contact hours during the academic year, August through May, in various modalities as assigned, including in-person, hybrid, online, live-virtual (hy-flex), and at high-school sites (Jump-Start dual credit), per the needs of the program.
4. Be available to students during the contract period and connect students with needed resources, such as counseling
5. Prepare course syllabi with all required elements, including student learning objectives, course requirements, assignments, testing policy, and grading scale
6. Support student learning outcomes assessment processes by teaching toward approved student learning outcomes and assessing student performance.
7. Assist with curriculum and program review, revision, and assessment. Aid in the development of new course materials and innovative instructional techniques that improve student learning.
8. Work closely with department peers and administrators to become an effective teacher and contributing member of the academic unit.
9. Assist coordinator with special projects as needed
10. Assist in mentoring part-time faculty as needed.
11. Attend and actively participate in College events, department and division meetings, college or Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) committees, and community service activities.
12. Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current in field knowledge and pedagogies that expand breadth and depth of understanding in the discipline.
13. Complete training outlined in TMCC's Faculty Standards of Online Instruction, when and as needed.
14. Hold 5 office hours per week.
15. Participate in student advising, recruitment, and retention efforts.
16. Travel occasionally to community and workforce sites, conferences, events, and so on, per the needs of the program.
17. Communicate and interact in a professional and collegial manner with faculty, students, staff, and administration, in the best interests of the college and the people it serves.
18. Comply with departmental administrative responsibilities and published college and NSHE policies and procedures.
19. Uphold the Mission, Vision, and Values of TMCC and perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with them.
20. Adhere to the published codes of NSHE as detailed in the Board of Regents Handbook.
21. Adhere to the Code of Ethical Standards of the State of Nevada (Nevada Revised Statutes 281A.400-281A.480).
22. Other duties as assigned.
Salary and Benefits Information:
Salary: Initial salary placement will be dependent on education level and years of experience. This position is a 9-month role, totaling 172 working days per year. The salaries listed below are based on this schedule, paid over 12 months:
Less than Master's: $60,000 - $72,000
Master's: $80,000 - $96,000
Master's + 30: $84,500 - $101,400
Ph.D: $89,000 - $106,800
