Manufacturing Workforce Development Coordinator

Position Title : Manufacturing Workforce Development Coordinator

Classification Title : Administrator

Position Number : B1223PD

Grade Level : P1

Starting Wage / Salary : $55,620 - $63,000 plus exceptional benefits. This is a grant-funded position. The grant ends December 31, 2029 with no guarantee of employment after that date.

Primary Purpose : The Manufacturing Workforce Development Coordinator serves as a comprehensive student success advocate and industry liaison for the Manufacturing Technology program. This position provides integrated support to students through case management, academic coaching, and career readiness preparation while building and maintaining strategic partnerships with local manufacturing employers. This position coordinates work-based learning opportunities, facilitates job placements, and connects students with campus resources to support retention and completion. Additionally, this role manages program data collection and reporting requirements, monitors FIPSE grant expenditures and benchmarks, and tracks post-completion student employment outcomes to ensure program effectiveness and compliance with grant requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Student Support and Retention :

  • Provide individual coaching to students on academic success strategies, including time management, study skills, faculty engagement, and goal setting
  • Meet regularly with students to monitor progress, address barriers, and increase retention
  • Assist students in developing resumes and career plans aligned with short and long-term goals
  • Connect students to COCC resources including Admissions and Records, CAP services, and other support systems
  • Coach students on job search strategies and provide ongoing support throughout the employment process

Industry Partnerships and Work-Based Learning :

  • Develop and maintain relationships with local manufacturing employers to identify internship, apprenticeship, and employment opportunities
  • Create and implement systems for coordinating work-based learning placements
  • Organize recruitment events, site visits, and networking opportunities connecting students with industry partners
  • Facilitate employer interviews and hiring processes for program graduates
  • Recruitment and Outreach :

  • Partner with Admissions and Records and the Office of High School Partnerships to engage prospective students
  • Establish relationships with high school counselors, career centers, teachers, and community organizations
  • Design and deliver interactive presentations at high schools, career fairs, trade events, and community venues
  • Conduct virtual and in-person information sessions to promote program awareness
  • Data Management and Grant Compliance :

  • Track and document student academic progress, completion rates, and employment outcomes
  • Maintain systems for monitoring post-completion student employment in local manufacturing industry
  • Monitor FIPSE grant expenditures to ensure benchmarks are met on schedule
  • Prepare and submit local, state, and federal reports as required

  • Ability to advise students on college success strategies, academic planning, career development, and institutional policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of workforce development programming, educational initiatives, and work-based learning coordination
  • Ability to build and maintain effective partnerships with educational institutions, community organizations, and industry partners
  • Strong cultural competence with ability to communicate effectively and develop relationships with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to lead recruitment efforts targeting underrepresented students to increase diversity in the skilled trades workforce
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines
  • Ability to facilitate conflict resolution and work collaboratively in team environments
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, database systems, email, website editing, and modern office equipment
  • Ability to collect, track, and analyze data for reporting purposes and grant compliance
  • Ergonomic Requirements

    Regular office hours are established between 8 am 5 pm during the workweek. A flexible work schedule, including nights and weekends, may be necessary due to the nature of the responsibilities. Incumbent must be able to function effectively indoors in an office environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary nature. Requires the ability to work at a workstation for extended periods. Requires to write, read written materials and computer screens, and ability to use telephonic conversations. Occasional lifting up to 25lbs. All individuals are required to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

    Minimum Requirements

    Education : Bachelor's Degree in education, social work, psychology, counseling, or related field.

    Experience : Two years' related experience in social services, career / workforce development, student affairs positions, and / or employment and training programs.

    License : Valid Driver's License, as occasional travel is required for this position.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Experience : One year experience in one or more of the following :

  • workforce development programming
  • working in higher education
  • working on Federal, State, and / or local grants
  • providing career coaching and job readiness resources to individuals
