CAD Drafter/Designer

EDGE Engineering is seeking a CAD Designer/Drafter to join our team in Austin, TX or Houston, TX. The CAD Designer/Drafter will work closely with staff across the company, including Project Managers, Task Leads, and Engineers-in-training, to produce design plans, construction details, and exhibits. The ideal candidate is driven, and able to self-learn new and ever-changing software, with the desire to grow within the company and the opportunity to make a significant impact on the efficient development and implementation of CAD standards. Projects will include public transportation, drainage, aviation, flood control, and water quality design. Job Responsibilities:

• Utilize computer-aided drafting, design software, and various other computer software packages to assist in preparing construction details, design plans, reports, and exhibits.

• Transfers numerical, written, sketched, or electronic information from engineering markups and computer files to final plans and maps.

• Visualizes and illustrates concepts or designs in 2D or 3D.

• Inform Project Manager(s) of progress on assigned tasks and request work when needed.

• Meet assigned deadlines.

• Assist in the development and implementation of company-wide CAD standards.

Requirements

• Proficient in specialized civil design applications for AutoCAD, MicroStation or Open Roads Designer software.

• Proficient in other widely used computer applications (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite products).

• Basic knowledge of computer file directories and use.

• Able to assist in the preparation of construction quantity and cost estimates.

Preferred

• Fundamental understanding of a variety of basic civil engineering principles and design procedures, including but not limited to drainage, pipe hydraulics, stormwater detention, grading, earthwork computations, water and wastewater systems, stormwater pollution prevention, etc.

• Proficient in MicroStation and/or Open Roads Designer.

• Knowledge of TxDOT and standard civil construction plans, details, and related documents.
