Job Description
COMPANY PROFILE

Code.org is an education innovation nonprofit dedicated to the vision that every student in every school has the opportunity to learn about artificial intelligence (AI) and computer science (CS) as part of their core K-12 education. We increase participation in AI+CS education by reaching students of all backgrounds where they are — at their skill level, in their schools, and in ways that inspire them to keep learning, with a focus on increasing participation by young women and students from other underrepresented groups. The leading provider of K-12 AI+CS education curriculum across the globe, Code.org also organizes the annual Hour of AI campaign, building on the legacy of the Hour of Code, which has engaged more than 15% of all students in the world!

A unifying approach in a divided world

Code.org's global role in the K-12 computer science movement is only possible because we use a unifying approach across diverse and often divided stakeholders. At a time of increasing polarization, the idea of increasing opportunity for students unites people from across the political spectrum. Code.org's team members, students, teachers, and supporters have diverse and diverging view points, and they are all welcome in our mission. Read more.

JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Development is a key contributor on Code.org's Revenue and Development team, responsible for stewarding and growing our largest existing donor relationships across individuals, foundations, and corporate partners. This role directly manages a personal portfolio of high-value donors. The Director of Development will collaborate closely with executive leadership, program, and product teams to craft tailored partnership strategies that advance both donor goals and Code.org's mission. This position is essential to sustaining our impact and ensuring long-term revenue predictability.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

In this role you will:

  • Serve as the relationship owner for a portfolio of Code.org's most significant existing donors, including top foundations, Fortune 500 companies, and high-net-worth individuals
  • Develop and execute customized renewal and upsell strategies for each account, focusing on multi-year and unrestricted commitments
  • Mentor a high-performing team of two fundraisers responsible for donor renewals across corporate and individual segments
  • Partner with internal teams (Programs, Marketing, Product, Finance) to craft compelling impact reports, renewal proposals, and donor engagement materials
  • Serve as a primary development liaison for internal executive and program leadership when coordinating on complex or multi-stakeholder renewals
  • Collaborate with Code.org's leadership team to shape the overall donor stewardship strategy and ensure consistent, high-quality engagement
  • Monitor portfolio health and team performance using Salesforce and other tools to track renewals, revenue forecasts, and donor activity
  • Identify and resolve potential churn risks early through proactive outreach and value reinforcement
  • Represent Code.org at donor meetings, conferences, and high-level events to strengthen relationships and increase visibility
  • Ensure high standards of operational excellence, data integrity, and donor experience throughout the renewal process
  • Contribute to long-term planning and strategic growth of the fundraising function, including ideas for segmentation, tiering, and team structure
  • Partner with the SVP of Revenue, Chief Growth Officer, and President as needed for top-tier donor engagement and executive sponsorship strategy
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

We seek candidates who have:

  • 8+ years of experience in fundraising, strategic partnerships, or enterprise sales, with a focus on renewals and account growth
  • Proven success managing high-value donor or customer relationships ($500K+ annual value), preferably in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization
  • Exceptional relationship-building, communication, and negotiation skills with executive-level audiences
  • Deep understanding of donor stewardship best practices and a strong customer success mindset
  • Skilled in managing complex, multi-stakeholder accounts and cross-functional collaboration
  • Strong data orientation with experience using Salesforce or similar CRMs to manage portfolios and forecast revenue
  • Highly organized with excellent project management and follow-through skills
  • Mission-driven, intellectually curious, and energized by systems change and educational equity
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required; advanced degree a plus

In addition, candidates must:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Work within the United States
  • Pass a pre-employment background check
  • Be willing to travel a minimum of two times per year for team events
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
  • Builder's mindset. We're looking for adaptable, result-driven team members who thrive in dynamic environments and can navigate shifting priorities with ease. In this role, you'll embrace change, pivot strategies as needed, and drive impactful solutions that align with evolving business needs. If you excel in fast-paced settings and enjoy turning challenges into opportunities, we'd love to have you on our team!
  • We are hard on problems and kind to each other. We stay focused on the challenge of bringing computer science to students and teachers globally. We recognize that each of us brings the best of our intentions to support our mission and give grace when we make mistakes.
  • A growth mindset fuels us. We approach each challenge with curiosity. We give feedback kindly and candidly; we receive feedback openly. We learn from our mistakes and look for ways to increase the reach and impact of our work.

At Code.org, we use AI thoughtfully and responsibly to support human-centered hiring. AI may help with administrative tasks, but every hiring decision is made by real people on our team.
