Software Quality Engineer
Abel Personnel is supporting their client a well-established and highly respected organization, in the search for a Software Quality Engineer to join their Richmond, VA team. This is a hands-on, on-site role supporting mission-critical systems in a stable, long-term environment. The Software Quality Engineer will be responsible for testing, validation, and ongoing support of software systems, with a strong focus on system reliability, data integrity, and compliance. This role partners closely with development, operations, and client stakeholders and plays a key role throughout the full software development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities :
- Plan, design, and execute manual and system-level test cases across the SDLC
- Develop and maintain test plans, test documentation, and standard operating procedures
- Execute verification testing to ensure software meets functional and performance requirements
- Track, document, and report defects; work closely with development teams to validate fixes
- Validate backend data and system behavior using SQL queries
- Maintain and manage test environments, including production-aligned data
- Participate in internal project meetings and client-facing discussions
- Support software demonstrations and validation efforts as needed
- Monitor system performance and identify anomalies or quality issues
- Ensure compliance with audit and security requirements
- Provide third-tier support for escalated issues as needed
- Participate in on-call support rotations and occasional after-hours work
- Travel to support field locations as required
Required Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field47 years of experience in software testing or quality assuranceStrong understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC)Hands-on experience testing in Linux environmentsWorking knowledge of SQL and database validationExperience creating test plans, test cases, and defect documentationAbility to work on-site in Richmond, VAActive or Interim Secret clearance (or ability to obtain)Preferred Skills :
