Learn about the fascinating history of Koreshan State Park and how this place came to be a place that would be preserved for future generations to enjoy!
Koreshan State Park has a rich and ecclectic history and it's founders donated the 200 acres to the Florida Park Service in the 1960's so it's unique culture could be preserved for generations to come. Tour Guides learn about the history, the people and the buildings and share this knowledge by leading 90 minute tours around the settlement as a fundraiser for the park.
Tour dates are added to the calendar when we have volunteers to manage them so this interpretive program is generally only scheduled when we have the volunteers to provide them. Each visitor pays $10 to join the walking tour and the money raised stays in the park to help with the preservation and restoration of the Settlement.
Learning the material can be done by starting as a Docent, spending a couple hours a week talking with visitors and answering questions. Then, the tour script is introduced. Taking tours from other volunteers, reading a book and various other web links is all it takes to get started.
You must speak english well but those of you that speak a second language would be fantastic for Spanish or French speaking visitors. You must be able to be on foot for up to two hours.
