Elementary School Teaching Assistant
At Breakthrough Academy, a new Missouri Charter School located at Operation Breakthrough, Teaching Assistants are essential to ensuring that all of our students succeed academically and build strong social-emotional skills. This position will assist teachers in building inclusive classroom communities (through the use of Conscious Discipline) where students feel safe, valued, and empowered to learn every day. While here, you’ll belong to a team of passionate professionals who are dedicated to our mission of helping urban Kansas City children reach their greatest potential.

Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in leading instruction, large group, small group, and with individual students.
- Help deliver engaging, standards-aligned hands-on projects in math, reading, science, and language arts with a strong focus on STEM, problem-solving, critical thinking and collaboration..
- Reinforce instruction by leading small groups to answer questions and help teach students part of the lesson
- Accompany students to recess, lunch and electives.
- Prepare materials for future lessons or events and assist teachers with record keeping
- Collaborate with staff to improve instruction and engage parents/guardians.
- Assist students in effectively using technology and building digital literacy skills and knowledge
- Help in creating and maintaining a stimulating and inclusive learning environment.
- Learn and Use Conscious Discipline to maintain a positive and safe learning environment where all students feel valued and respected.
- Implement effective classroom management strategies to minimize disruptions and maximize learning time.
- Manage student behavior and address concerns in a fair and consistent manner.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Indoor and outdoor classroom environment and outdoor recess (weather permitting).
