Clinical Laboratory Technologist
Location: Johnson City, NY 13790
Start Date: February 16, 2026
Shift: Nights | 11:30 PM – 7:30 AM
Schedule: 5 days/week, 40 hours/week
Weekend Requirement: Rotating (every other or every third weekend)
Contract: 13-week extendable contract
Compensation
- Local: $53/hour
- Traveler: $2,377/week (approx. $59.42/hour blended)
Required Experience
- Minimum 2–3 years of direct clinical laboratory experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology or equivalent
- NYS Licensed Clinical Laboratory Technologist (Grandfathered candidates accepted with proof)
Certifications & Licensure
- New York State Licensed Clinical Laboratory Technologist
- Proof of grandfathering exception (if applicable)
- BLS Certification (AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross)
Preferred:
- ASCP Specialty Certification (issued by New York State)
Position Summary
Under limited supervision, the Clinical Laboratory Technologist performs routine and specialized clinical laboratory testing in assigned sections. The technologist ensures accuracy, quality, and timely reporting of laboratory results while adhering to hospital, departmental, and regulatory standards. Technologists with six (6) or more years of experience may assume supervisory or charge responsibilities in the absence of the supervisor.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine, specialized, and automated clinical laboratory tests; analyze and interpret qualitative and quantitative results.
- Recognize abnormal and critical values and take appropriate action according to established protocols.
- Perform, document, interpret, and troubleshoot quality control procedures.
- Conduct preventative maintenance on laboratory instruments and troubleshoot technical issues; escalate policy-related concerns to the supervisor when necessary.
- Verify, document, and post test results in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and complete downtime documentation as required.
- Perform LIS-related functions including data entry, verification, result retrieval, and workload recording.
- Collect laboratory specimens (blood, urine, and other body fluids) following proper patient identification and age-appropriate techniques.
- Participate in evaluation and implementation of new testing methods and procedures.
- Maintain compliance with NYSDOH, CDC, infection control standards, and hospital policies.
- Participate in training and mentoring of MT/MLT students and new laboratory staff as assigned.
- Engage in continuing education to maintain professional competence and licensure.
- For technologists with six (6) or more years of experience, act in a supervisory or charge technologist capacity in the absence of the supervisor.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
