Adult Education Academic Advisor

Schedule: Monday Thursday 11:00 - 8:00 p.m. / Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

40 hours per week / 46 Weeks

Qualifications

• Valid Michigan Secondary Teaching Certificate. K-12 Counseling Endorsement preferred.
• Knowledge of Michigan Merit Curriculum Graduation requirements.
• Academic advising experience.
• Experience assessing issuing and evaluating secondary credits.
• An interest/experience in working with adult students.

Responsibilities

• Provide academic counseling to current and prospective students.
• Evaluate transfer transcripts from other academic institutions including foreign issued for equivalencies and application to goal.
• Monitor academic progress of student; analyze progress reports from instructors; determine eligibility and satisfactory progress toward goal; refer students to appropriate resources for assistance.
• Actively engage with and build rapport with students creating a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere that promotes student success and well-being.
• Maintenance of student records coordination preparation and maintenance of credit evaluations.
• Assist students in establishing realistic and attainable academic and career goals.
• Recommend students for graduation.
• Learn and follow district state and federal guidelines for graduation and grants.
• Identify options for students to satisfy degree requirements; evaluate and make recommendations for student classes and program plan.
• Facilitate student exploration and preparation for diverse post-secondary pathways including college trade school and direct entry into the workforce. This includes providing resources on career opportunities application processes and financial aid.
• Work with College and Career Readiness Standards.
• Other duties as assigned.
