Duties

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans aligned with early childhood education standards, Arizona Child Care Licensing regulations (ADHS), and Quality First best practices.
• Provide active supervision at all times to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of children in care.
• Observe, assess, and document children’s developmental progress, identifying strengths and areas for growth and adapting instruction to meet individual learning needs.
• Create and maintain a safe, clean, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment that supports social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
• Build positive, professional relationships with parents and guardians through daily communication, conferences, and collaboration regarding child progress and needs.
• Collaborate effectively with a team of educators, contributing to curriculum planning, classroom consistency, and continuous quality improvement.
• Follow all center policies, licensing requirements, health and safety procedures, and emergency protocols, including ratio compliance and required documentation.

Additional Responsibilities (Lead Teacher)

• Design and oversee classroom curriculum and daily schedules.
• Mentor and support assistant teachers and aides, providing guidance and feedback.
• Assist with classroom documentation and preparation for Quality First assessments.

Requirements

• Must meet Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) Child Care Licensing requirements for Preschool Teachers (education, experience, and background clearance).
• Passion for working with young children ages birth–5 and supporting early childhood development.
• Ability to plan and implement developmentally appropriate, play-based learning activities.
• Strong classroom management and active supervision skills to ensure child safety at all times.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with families, children, and team members.
• Ability to create and maintain a safe, clean, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment.
• Willingness to follow all center policies, health and safety procedures, and licensing regulations.
• Ability to observe, document, and support children’s developmental progress.
• Reliable, punctual, and professional with a positive attitude.
• Ability to pass criminal background checks, TB testing, and required health screenings.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience working in a licensed childcare center or preschool setting.
Coursework, degree, or certification in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
Familiarity with Arizona Child Care Licensing standards and classroom compliance.
Experience participating in Quality First or other early childhood quality improvement programs.
Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
Experience using play-based, hands-on, or curriculum-driven learning approaches.
Strong classroom organization and positive behavior guidance skills.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills.
Interest in professional development, coaching, and continuous quality improvement.
