Behavioral Health Billing Specialist - St. Louis, MO (Full-Time)

Express Employment Professionals is hiring a detail-oriented Behavioral Health Billing Specialist to support the ministry operations of Catholic Charities of St. Louis . This position is responsible for accurate behavioral health billing, claims processing, and compliance with state and federal requirements. The ideal candidate has strong experience in behavioral health billing , ICD-10 / CPT coding , Medicaid billing , and EHR claims management .
Key Responsibilities
Claims Management :
Submit, monitor, and correct behavioral health claims through the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system (CareLogic), ensuring timely submission and accuracy.
Billing & Reconciliation :
Prepare and reconcile billing for Medicaid, DBH, private insurance, and grants. Review invoices and resolve claim rejections.
Compliance & Data Integrity :
Maintain compliance with HIPAA, state / federal billing regulations, and Missouri DMH procedures. Ensure client records and billing documentation are audit-ready.
Performance Standards :
Maintain a 98% clean claim rate, ensure AR days remain under 45, and meet all agency billing benchmarks.
Collaboration :
Work closely with clinical and administrative teams to resolve discrepancies, improve billing workflows, and support reporting needs.
What We're Looking For
Experience :
2-6 years of behavioral health billing experience OR 5+ years managing a billing / billing operations team.
Education :
Associate's degree in Medical Billing or Business required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
(5+ years of specific behavioral health billing experience may substitute for a degree.)
Certifications :
Certified Medical Billing Specialist (CMBS) required.
Technical Skills :
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, formulas) and experience with EHR systems such as Availity, HealthLink, WPS, and CareLogic.
Knowledge :
Strong understanding of ICD-10 coding, CPT codes, HIPAA regulations, claim reconciliation, and Missouri DMH protocols.
