SHIPFITTER (FLANGE TURNER)

Shipfitter (Flange Turner) Position

You will serve as a Shipfitter (Flange Turner) in the Structural and Fabrication Shop (Code 920) of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF. The Secretary of Defense has ordered a department-wide hiring freeze subject to certain limited exceptions. This position is subject to the DoD hiring freeze. Responsibilities :

• Cut, shape, and straighten hot and cold plates and structural members used in ship construction by the use of heat, power-driven machines and special hand tools.
• Operate oxy / acetylene gas heating torches.
• Heat and bend characteristics of metal used in the overhaul and repair of ships.
• Apply methods and procedures used in the bending and shaping of ship structural plates and shapes.
• Work from templates, mock-up molds and lay-out markings.
• Operate and set up various types of bending and shaping machines.
• Use hand tools such as hand heating dogs, moonbars, and beveling bars.
• Fabricate steel templates and steel mock-ups, working from wooden templates and wooden mock-ups furnished by mold loft.
• Read blueprints, job orders or JIC specifications, sketches, manuals, memos and other trade-related information.
• Make shop calculations using ordinary arithmetic, geometry and other trade related mathematical methods.
• Set up and operate various structural shop machinery such as plate rolls, presses, bending brakes, shears, etc.
