Summary

The Certified Phlebotomy Technician will be responsible for providing essential laboratory support and phlebotomy services to the Health Services Unit at the Federal Correctional Institution in Manchester, KY. This role requires exceptional specimen collection skills and strict adherence to protocol in a secure correctional environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Specimen Collection: Perform routine venipuncture and capillary procedures for blood collection; collect and process other non-blood specimens (urine, stool, etc.).
• Laboratory Management: Prepare, pack, and transport specimens to referral laboratories according to established procedures. Ensure all lab requests, results, and logs are properly completed, filed, and documented in the Bureau Electronic Medical Record (BEMR).
• Patient Intake: Assist clinical staff by taking and recording patient vital signs and weight.
• Compliance: Maintain the Health Services Manual and Laboratory Procedure Manual, assist with CLIA re-certification, and ensure the proper maintenance and supply of laboratory equipment.
• Security: Adhere to all institutional security policies and maintain professional conduct while interacting with the adult-in-custody population.

Minimum Qualifications

• Valid certification to practice in the state of Kentucky as a Medical Assistant, Laboratory Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, or Phlebotomist.
• CPR certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross).
• Proven experience with specimen collection, packaging, and shipment to referral laboratories.
• Knowledge of maintaining appropriate records.
• Must submit to testing for communicable diseases (e.g., TB) and pass a federal background check.
