Job Description Summary
This summer internship is all about teaching our community how to protect our water and take care of the planet. You’ll work with City and County staff to lead fun, hands-on activities for kids and families at local events. Minimum Qualifications
What You’ll Be Doing - Teach and Play: Lead interactive lessons and games about nature and sustainability for kids at summer camps and after-school programs.
- Community Events: Help run booths at local events like “Family Fun Fest” and “Creek Week.” You’ll be responsible for setting up displays and packing them up afterward.
- Be the Expert: Talk to the public about how to prevent pollution and dispose of waste properly.
- Support the Team: Create handouts and games, track how many people attend events, and gather feedback from the community.
Skills You’ll Need - A Passion for Nature: You should be interested in topics like clean water, recycling, and protecting natural resources.
- People Skills: You need to be friendly, professional, and comfortable talking to strangers or leading a group of energetic kids.
- Reliability: Since you’ll be representing the city/county, you need to be organized, show up on time, and work well with others.
- Outdoor Ready: You should be comfortable working outside in the summer heat and able to lift about 25 lbs (like a box of supplies or a folding table).
Requirements - Education: You must be a high school graduate or a current college student. (Students studying science, teaching, or communications are a great fit!)
- Experience: It’s a plus if you’ve worked as a camp counselor or volunteered at community events before.
- Travel: Having a driver’s license and a reliable way to get to different event sites is preferred.
ScheduleThis is a seasonal summer job. The hours are flexible, but you will need to work some afternoons, evenings, and weekends to attend community festivals. You’ll spend some time in the office planning, but a lot of your time will be spent outdoors at events. Supervision Exercised None.
