Essential Functions

· Receives specimens and checks all specimens for correct name and tests ordered.
· Ensures adequacy and appropriateness of samples received.
· Labels and aliquots specimens as needed.
· Prepares specimens for send out to reference lab.
· Discards specimens that are more than 7 days old, per established protocols.
· Centrifuges specimens as needed.
· Sorts and numbers all specimens.
· Enters client and specimen data into the computer.
· Ensures accuracy of information entered.
· Answers telephone to assist with client or phlebotomy questions regarding specimen requirements and turnaround times of tests.
· Decontaminates the bench tops according to instructions.
· Wears all protective equipment as dictated by policy.
· Follows all safety protocols as outlined in the safety manual.
· Identifies and pursues self improvement needs.
· Seeks coaching/mentoring when appropriate .
· Performs other duties as assigned.
Compliance Responsibilities
· Complies with applicable legal requirements, standards, and procedures including, but not limited to, those within the Compliance Process, Code of Conduct, State and CLIA.
· Participates in required orientation, Compliance and HIPAA training programs.
· Reports concerns and suspected incidences of non-compliance.
· Cooperates with monitoring and audit functions and investigations.
· Participates, as requested, in process improvement responsibilities.

Professional Experience/Educational Requirements
· Bachelor in Science
· Prior laboratory experience preferred.
· Data entry/computer skills required.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
