A little about the job....

Codes and abstracts inpatient and / or outpatient medical records for reimbursement and statistical purposes under general supervision. Performs qualitative analysis of records for deficiencies and performs related clerical duties as needed.

Qualifications for the job...

  • Certified as Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Certified Coding Specialist required. Accredited Medical Records Technician (AMRT) preferred.
  • Approximately twelve months' experience necessary to with hospital medical record coding procedures and as well as to learn hospital policies and procedures.
  • Interpersonal skills are necessary in order to communicate effectively with physicians, hospital staff and other medical records personnel in compiling data.
  • Analytical skills are necessary in order to determine adequacy of medical records and interpret medical terminology in order to code required data.
