License : Active nursing license required. Certifications : BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have : Minimum 2 years of experience on the cardiac floor required. Traveler experience preferred unless the traveler has more than 24 months of cardiac experience. Candidates must pass EKG testing prior to start for this specialty. Description : Applicants will work in a post-cardiac surgery unit. The patient population includes adults and geriatrics. Common patient diagnoses include atrial fibrillation, congestive heart failure, acute coronary syndrome, coronary artery disease, and cardiomyopathy. The nurse-to-patient ratios vary per acuity, with typical ratios of 1 : 4 for surgical step down and 1 : 5-6 for lower acuity. The role requires management of cardiac drips without titration and the ability to interpret dysrhythmias. Experience with sheath removal, post-myocardial infarction care, and pre / post cardiac catheterization is essential. The nurse may be required to float within the hospital or to nearby facilities based on skill sets and census needs. The unit utilizes medication, documentation, and communication systems that require familiarity with electronic medical records. Candidates will need to demonstrate competencies in managing chest tubes, non-invasive airway management, and wound care. Weekend shifts of 4 shifts within 4 weeks are expected. Candidates must work during 2 out of 3 major holidays. RTO after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite. Any call-offs or additional requests for time off may result in cancellation of the assignment.
