Building Maintenance Worker

Reporting to the Crew Supervisor and/or Assistant Housekeeping Supervisor, the Building Maintenance Worker is responsible for maintaining cleanliness of the Montclair State University Facilities.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Clean campus facilities alone or in teams; clean public areas and meeting spaces.
• Perform room set-ups; replace light bulbs, clean light fixtures and restrooms.
• Sweep, mop, strip and wax, buff floors; vacuum and shampoo carpets.
• Collect and remove trash, bring trash to curb or receptacles, transfer recyclable materials.
• Dust all surface and vent, and clean inside window surfaces.
• Clean desks, tables, chairs, and remove graffiti.
• Clean offices, classrooms, and work areas.
• Perform snow removal as directed.
• Attend in-service training and participate in University quality and processing improvement initiatives.
• Assist with the sorting, distribution, transportation and storage of cleaning supplies.
• Keep janitorial closet stocked and clean; maintain housekeeping equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Management retains the right to add or change job duties at any time.

Qualifications:

Required:

• Ability to speak, read, and understand English.
• Ability to lift 25 lbs. and use a ladder.
• Ability to work any shift, overtime and holidays in the performance of assigned responsibilities.

Preferred:

• A high school diploma or its equivalency.
• Housekeeping experience in a university, school or hospital setting.

Note: This is a Civil Service position. As required by the State of New Jersey, in order to be certified to the position and attain permanent status in title, candidates are required to successfully serve a 4-Month Working Test Period.

This position is designated as essential. The designation of essential requires employees at these 24/7 facilities to be present due to inclement weather situations. This position requires on campus work and is not a position that allows remote work.

Salary Range: O09: $37,334.25 - $53,572.65 NOTE: Salaries for internal candidates are determined by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission's formula. Salaries for external candidates are determined up to step four, $42,205.77.

Salary Range: $17.95-$25.76 Hourly. The position may also be eligible for comprehensive benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and tuition assistance.
