Senior Network Engineer
Location: Diablo Canyon Power Plant (Onsite required initially, then hybrid)
Overview
We are seeking a Senior Network Engineer to support and maintain critical network and voice infrastructure at Diablo Canyon Power Plant (DCPP). This role requires an engineer who can come onsite, learn a highly regulated environment, and then provide a mix of onsite and remote operational support.
This is a hands-on role supporting mission-critical systems where stability, security, and operational discipline matter more than experimentation. Experience in regulated or high-availability environments is strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Network & Voice Infrastructure Support
- Support and maintain Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM / Call Manager) environments.
- Support and maintain Cisco wireless infrastructure, including:
- Cisco 9800 series Wireless LAN Controllers
- Cisco 8540 legacy controllers
- Support campus and off-site networking infrastructure including:
- Cisco switches and routers
- Voice gateways
- Wireless access points and WiFi bridges
Network Management & Monitoring
- Support and maintain network management platforms:
- Cisco Catalyst Center (DNA Center)
- Cisco Prime Infrastructure (legacy)
- Monitor performance, troubleshoot incidents, and support ongoing optimization of network services.
Security & Firewall Support
- Provide operational support for Palo Alto firewalls.
- Coordinate with corporate security teams on:
- OS upgrades
- Hardware refreshes
- Policy and configuration changes
- Assist cybersecurity teams with log requests, forensic data, and network-level troubleshooting.
Operational Support
- Troubleshoot network issues across campus and remote locations.
- Provide documentation, configuration updates, and operational handoffs as required.
- Participate in maintenance windows, upgrades, and planned outages as needed.
Onsite & Compliance Requirements
- Initial onsite presence at Diablo Canyon Power Plant is required to become familiar with the environment.
- Ongoing role will be a mix of onsite visits and remote support.
- Must be able to obtain Diablo Canyon access credentials, including:
- Approximately one week of onsite training
- Extensive background check
- Psychological evaluation
- Fitness-for-duty drug testing
- Ability to meet all badging and compliance requirements is mandatory.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of hands-on network engineering experience in enterprise environments.
- Strong experience with Cisco networking technologies:
- CUCM / Voice infrastructure
- Wireless LAN Controllers
- Switching and routing
- Experience supporting network management platforms (Catalyst Center, Prime, or similar).
- Experience working with Palo Alto firewalls in an operational support capacity.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across LAN, WAN, wireless, and voice.
- Comfortable working in regulated, high-availability, or mission-critical environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in utilities, energy, nuclear, or other highly regulated industries.
- Palo Alto certifications (PCNSE or similar).
- Cisco certifications (CCNP, CCIE, or equivalent experience).
- Experience working alongside cybersecurity teams and compliance organizations.
