We are seeking an experienced Database Lead Operations to oversee the day-to-day operations, monitoring, and optimization of our enterprise database infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in operational management of cloud-native database solutions, particularly Oracle RDS and Aurora PostgreSQL, combined with strong Infrastructure as Code practices using Terraform. This role requires both operational leadership and hands-on database operations skills to ensure maximum uptime, performance, and reliability of our critical data systems.

Key Responsibilities

Database Operations Management

  • Oversee 24 / 7 operations of Oracle RDS and Aurora PostgreSQL production environments
  • Lead incident response and resolution for database-related issues and outages
  • Manage database performance monitoring, alerting, and proactive optimization
  • Coordinate database maintenance windows, patching, and upgrade operations

Infrastructure Operations

  • Operationalize Oracle RDS and Aurora PostgreSQL instances in AWS environments
  • Maintain and enhance Infrastructure as Code using Terraform for operational consistency
  • Execute and monitor automated backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures
  • Oversee database capacity planning, performance tuning, and cost optimization initiatives

    • Technical Leadership

  • Lead a team of database administrators and engineers
  • Mentor junior team members on database technologies and best practices
  • Collaborate with development teams on database design and optimization
  • Participate in architectural reviews and technical decision-making processes

    • Daily Operations & Performance

  • Ensure 99.9%+ uptime and optimal performance of all production database systems
  • Lead operational runbooks, standard operating procedures, and emergency response protocols
  • Manage real-time database monitoring, alerting systems, and performance dashboards
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams during planned and unplanned maintenance activities
  • Execute database performance tuning, query optimization, and resource allocation

    • Security & Compliance

  • Implement database security best practices including encryption, access controls, and auditing
  • Ensure compliance with relevant data protection regulations and industry standards
  • Conduct regular security assessments and vulnerability management
  • Manage database access controls and user provisioning

    • Required Qualifications

    Technical Skills

  • 7+ years of experience in database operations and administration
  • 3+ years of leadership experience managing database operations teams
  • Expert-level operational knowledge of Oracle databases and Oracle RDS
  • Strong operational experience with Aurora PostgreSQL and PostgreSQL performance management
  • Proficiency with Terraform for operational Infrastructure as Code
  • Hands-on experience with AWS cloud database operations and monitoring
  • Proven track record in database performance tuning and operational optimization
  • Experience managing database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery operations

    • Core Competencies

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, dynamic environments

    • Preferred Qualifications

    Advanced Technical Skills

  • AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, Database Specialty)
  • Oracle certifications (OCP, OCM)
  • PostgreSQL certifications
  • Experience with additional AWS database services (DynamoDB, Redshift, ElastiCache)
  • Knowledge of database replication and clustering technologies
  • Experience with CI / CD pipelines for database deployments

    • Leadership & Process

  • Master's degree in relevant field
  • Experience with DevOps practices and tools
  • Knowledge of containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Experience with monitoring tools (CloudWatch, DataDog, New Relic)
  • Previous experience in similar industry verticals
