Responsibilities
Always maintain a valid driver's license and an "acceptable" driving record and be responsible for driving Center vans or other vehicles. Report any and all traffic citations to personnel office immediately and in writing.
1. Provide quality nursing care to all person served.
2. Assist with all health care policies, procedures, and services including, but not limited to the following: treatment procedures/therapy procedures; including familiarity with tracheostomy care, g-tube, and j-tube care, BiPaP, oxygen administration, venipuncture skills, and medication administration
3. Assess and supervise daily health care and medical care needs of person served and ensure that care is delivered in a safe and therapeutic manner.
4. Assist in scheduling appointments and planning needed care for person served and ensure that all care procedures are carried out, i.e., lab work, doctor appointments, dental visits. Accompany person served to medical appointments as indicated. Assist with field trips when necessary.
5. In cases of emergency involving the welfare of the person served, primary responsibility is to care for the person served. Also, make necessary arrangements, contact proper authorities, including person served, parents and/or guardian, and notify appropriate Center personnel.
6. Keep parents, physicians, and related personnel well informed concerning each person served health needs, problems and progress. Establish a good rapport with Day Services and Residential families in order to ensure that health-related information is obtained and shared.
7. Participate as a member of the interdisciplinary team. Play a lead role in planning for Day Services person served medical histories will be completed, and updated on a yearly basis, nursing evaluations will be discussed yearly at person served annual IEP and a formal evaluation written at the three-year evaluation is determined to be necessary by the interdisciplinary team.
8. Provide input into nursing programmatic policies and procedures.
9. Assist in implementing nursing policies and procedures and carrying them out properly.
10. Keep comprehensive and accurate nursing related records updated to meet all local, state, and federal laws and ICF/IDD regulations.
11. Perform related assigned nursing tasks, i.e., stocking supplies, ordering, cleaning work area as indicated, administer yearly TB tests to staff.
12. Provide consultation to staff on health-related areas and work-related injuries as indicated.
13. Assist in orientation and training of new staff in areas of health care issues and orientation of new nurses to the Center (i.e. shift assignments and role of nursing).
14. Assist staff in lifting of person served in appropriate situations.
15. Assist with ordering supplies, stocking work areas and maintaining a clean work area.
16. Notify supervisor of equipment and supply needs and keep equipment in good working repair and sanitary condition.
17. Keep the Director of Nursing and Clinical Lead Nurse informed of related needs, problems, and recommendations pertinent to their assigned program area.
18. Maintain an effective, safe, and productive work environment.
19. Attend staff meetings.
20. Complete infection control reports on an ongoing basis and report these reports quarterly to the Director of Nursing.
21. Participate in quarterly assessment and progress notes for person served and other related duties as assigned (i.e. 90-day review of orders).
22. Maintain up to date first aid boxes for vehicles used to transport person served.
23. Assist as a liaison concerning health needs of person served between programs, doctors, parents/guardians as needed.
24. Assist in conducting in-service training for staff on health care and related health care subjects as approved by the Director of Nursing.
25. Perform related duties as required or pertaining to shift as designated by the Clinical Lead Supervisor/DON.
26. All nurses will participate and assist with shift coverage needs as designated by the Clinical Lead Nursing Supervisor or DON.
27. Participate in on-call rotation as designated.
28. All other duties as assigned.
Special Qualification
A current validated license to practice as a Registered Nurse or LPN in North Carolina. Current certification in First Aid and CPR.
Minimum Education/Experience
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. Preference given for work experience in pediatrics/developmental disabilities or ICF/IDD experience, or school nurse experience.

1. Considerable knowledge of sound nursing care, procedures and techniques and the ability to apply these skills to the work environment.
2. General knowledge of related laws, regulations and practices which govern the practice of nursing.
3. Ability to provide leadership, supervision and training or instruction to non-licensed staff.
4. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with families/guardians and staff of the Center.
5. Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal regulations that apply to this facility.
6. Ability to learn established techniques and procedures related to persons with severe and profound developmental disabilities, including standards and principles associated with ICF/IDD regulations.
7. Must have a local telephone.
8. Must have a valid NC driver's license and be insurable by the agency's insurance carrier.
9. Ability to lift 40 lbs. independently and lift person served with assistance, in appropriate situations.
10. Willingness and ability to participate in "on-call" duties as designed.
Hours/Days of Work: As designated by position or shift (Non-exempt)
Weekends required.
