Grounds Intern

About the Role:

The Grounds Intern at Grounds & Shooting Lodge plays a vital role in maintaining and enhancing the natural beauty and functionality of the lodge's outdoor spaces. This position offers hands-on experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, and general maintenance within a hospitality and recreation environment. The intern will contribute to creating a welcoming and pristine environment for guests by supporting the upkeep of lawns, gardens, pathways, and recreational areas. Through collaboration with the grounds team, the intern will learn practical skills related to horticulture, equipment operation, and environmental stewardship. Ultimately, this role aims to develop the intern’s expertise in grounds management while ensuring the lodge’s outdoor areas meet high standards of safety, aesthetics, and guest satisfaction.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled in or recently completed a program related to horticulture, landscaping, environmental science, or a related field.
• Basic knowledge of grounds maintenance practices and equipment.
• Ability to perform physical labor outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
• Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience in groundskeeping or landscaping roles.
• Familiarity with the hospitality or recreation industry.
• Knowledge of native plants and sustainable landscaping practices.
• Certification in equipment operation or safety training.
• Basic understanding of pest management and soil care.

Responsibilities:

• Assist in daily maintenance tasks such as mowing, trimming, watering, and fertilizing lawns and gardens.
• Support the setup and upkeep of outdoor recreational areas, including shooting ranges and walking trails.
• Operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment safely and efficiently under supervision.
• Help identify and address landscaping issues such as pest control, plant health, and soil conditions.
• Collaborate with the grounds team to ensure all outdoor areas are clean, safe, and visually appealing for guests.
• Participate in seasonal projects including planting, pruning, and preparing grounds for special events.
• Adhere to all safety protocols and environmental regulations while performing duties.
