Victim Witness Program Assistant Supervisor

Job Description

The Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office Victim / Witness Program is hiring for a deputy director position. The position works collaboratively with the director to implement and evaluate Victim / Witness Program design to ensure services to victims and witnesses of crime in accordance with the Crime Victims and Witnesses Rights Act. Responsibilities include :

Assist the director in program management, training, interviews, scheduling, and evaluation of program staff..

Provides crisis intervention skills, support and specialized referrals to victims and witnesses of crime.

Prepares victims / witnesses for participation in court proceedings. Explain the steps in the process, their rights and information regarding their case.

Escorts victims to court and remain with them during court proceedings.

Produces and provides written material to victims / witnesses to inform them of available resources such as compensation, protective orders, victim impact statements and release notifications.. Required Qualifications

VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS : Requires a bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of education and experience in law, sociology, psychology, or a closely related field. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS : In addition to satisfying the vocational / educational standard, this class requires a minimum of two years of related, full-time equivalent experience. SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES : Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and / or City-wide emergencies.

Effective communication skills, listening, oral and written

Leadership experience

Ability to work effectively with diverse populations

Ability to multi-task caseloads and supervisory duties.
