Job Summary

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on several factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The hourly rate for this position is $24.99.

Department Description

The UCSF Police Department provides contemporary police services including criminal investigation, community policing, crime prevention and suppression, emergency management, and site security services to a daily population of over 60,000 people at University and contract locations. Founded in 1864, UCSF includes the 107-acre Parnassus campus that is home to graduate professionals in dentistry, medicine, nursing and pharmacy; a graduate division for pre- and postdoctoral scientists; UCSF Medical Center; UCSF Children's Hospital; and Langley Porter Psychiatric Institute. UCSF is considered one of the nation's premier health sciences teaching, training, and research centers. UCSF is the only UC campus dedicated exclusively to the health sciences. Additionally, the department has expanded police and security services to the Mission Bay Campus and Benioff Oakland Children's Hospital.

The department has achieved accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) and the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA). The UCSF Police Department is committed to delivering outstanding community policing service and enjoys excellent customer service ratings.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• General PC knowledge and demonstrated proficiency using MS Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
• Excellent customer service and effective problem-solving skills; ability to fluently speak, read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions in English
• Demonstrated ability to work calmly under stress in emergencies; sound judgment skills
• Demonstrated record of excellent attendance and reliability

Note: Physical/health screening, fingerprinting, and background checks are required.

Preferred Qualifications

• One or more years of experience in the security field
• Military experience

License/Certification

• License: Valid and unrestricted California Driver's License- Class C (required)
• Certification: BSIS (Guard Card) Certification (completed within one year from date of hire)
