Health & Safety Specialist
You will play a crucial role in developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety policies, programs, and procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations, including OSHA and related laws. As a part of our Human Capital team, you will foster a culture of safety in the manufacturing facility. This role requires proactive engagement with employees and leadership to identify risks, conduct training, and promote safe working practices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety policies, procedures, and guidelines
- Create and lead comprehensive Health & Safety programs from the ground up, including risk assessments and preventive measures
- Ensure proper communication of safety protocols through employee communications and meetings
- Assist in creating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for tooling and equipment
- Report and monitor occurrences using internal safety tracking systems
- Perform and follow up on investigations for safety incidents while maintaining confidentiality
- Lead or participate in Safety Committee activities, audits, training, and documentation
- Serve as a trusted advisor to employees and management regarding health and safety issues
- Provide recommendations and corrective actions for health and safety concerns
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to initiate and support wellness activities and events
- Lead health and safety training sessions
- Organize training requirements with external safety vendors
- Support compliance with OSHA and other applicable U.S. regulations and suggest improvements as needed
Skills, Education, and/or Experience
- Education in occupational health and safety, safety management, human resources, or a related field preferred
- Proven experience creating and implementing Health & Safety programs
- Prior experience working in a manufacturing or industrial setting is required
- Previous experience in a health and safety position or similar role preferred
- Experience with health and safety compliance, guidelines, training, software, and documentation preferred
- First Aid and CPR certification required; training may be provided if necessary
- Experience with continuous improvement practices is a plus
- Experience leading or participating in safety committees preferred
- High attention to detail and analytical skills required
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills required
- Technical proficiency with computers and tablets required
- Ability to work effectively in both team-oriented and independent settings
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Work Environment
Factory, Warehouse, Distribution Center, Office
May be exposed to loud, repetitive sounds from machinery or equipment
May use chemicals in accordance with U.S. safety data sheets (SDS)
May operate machinery in close proximity or with exposure to eyes or face
Proper use of PPE such as safety glasses, closed-toe shoes, hearing protection, gloves, face shields, and other equipment as designated by the job being performed in a production environment is mandatory. Adherence to company safety policies is a condition of employment.
