Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Surg Telemetry position requiring an active AZ or compact RN license and recent acute care experience.

Responsibilities

  • Work in an acute hospital Med / Surg Telemetry unit with 29 beds
  • Manage general Med / Surg patients requiring telemetry, including titration of Amiodarone and Cardizem
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 : 4 on both days and nights
  • Central telemetry monitoring with GE Monitors and assistance from a tech
  • Night shift, 12-hour shifts from 7p-7a, with four weekend shifts required every four-week period
  • Floating required to Med / Surg Tele C5 and B2D units
  • Electronic charting with Cerner EMR
  • Unit is supported by charge nurse, unit supervisor, and PCTs / SWAT RNs
  • Two-shift unit-specific orientation provided
  • Responsible for caring for Med / Surg patients with telemetry monitoring, administering and titrating cardiac medications as needed
  • Naval blue scrubs are required
  • Assignment includes one major and one minor holiday coverage
  • First to float among staff as needed by census
  • Pass / fail on sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on first day
  • Pharmacy and respiratory therapy are available 24 / 7
  • House SWAT nurse supports challenging IV placements; no dedicated IV team
  • Spectralink phones are provided for communications, with call lights attached to phone
  • Applicants must pass all testing and orientation requirements to begin assignment
  • A minimum permanent residence radius of 50 miles is required for candidates in AZ

    • Requirements

  • Active AZ RN or compact license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
  • Minimum of 2 recent years of Med / Surg Telemetry RN experience within the past 6 months
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Must be able to read EKG strips accurately
  • Must pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to start, with a maximum of 2 attempts allowed
  • Must successfully complete a pass / fail Sim Lab during initial orientation
  • Two professional references : one from a supervisor within the last 12 months, and one from a supervisor or peer within the last 3 years
  • Copy of driver’s license required
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed by facilities associated with CommonSpirit within the past year
