About the Role
We’re looking for a mid-level MSSQL DBA to own day-to-day database operations, performance tuning, high availability, and security across our SQL Server environments. You’ll collaborate closely with application teams, DevOps, and InfoSec to ensure our data platforms are reliable, performant, and scalable.
What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities)
- Administration & Operations
Install, configure, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server (2016+ preferred) across development, staging, and production.
Manage user access, roles, and security (AD integration, least privilege, auditing).Plan and apply patches and cumulative updates , managing change windows and rollbacks.Performance & OptimizationMonitor and tune performance (indexes, stats, query plans, I / O, memory, CPU).
Use tools such as Query Store , Extended Events , DMVs , and third-party monitoring (e.g., Redgate, SolarWinds / DPA).Conduct root cause analyses and implement permanent fixes.Backup, Recovery & HA / DRDesign and maintain backup / restore strategies (native backups, compression, encryption).
Implement and support HA / DR (Always On Availability Groups, Log Shipping, Failover Cluster Instances).Test and document disaster recovery procedures with defined RPO / RTO.Development SupportPartner with developers on T‑SQL best practices, schema design, and code reviews.
Manage deployments (SSDT / DACPAC, migrations) and support CI / CD integration.Optimize stored procedures, views, functions, and ETL jobs (SSIS or equivalent).Automation & ObservabilityAutomate routine tasks with PowerShell , SQL Agent jobs, and scripts.
Maintain monitoring and alerting for capacity, performance, and availability.Produce runbooks, documentation , and knowledge base articles.Data Governance & ComplianceImplement encryption at rest / in transit , data masking, and retention policies.
Support audits and compliance (e.g., SOX, HIPAA, PCI ) where applicable.Cloud & Modernization (as applicable)Support SQL Server in Azure / AWS VMs; familiarity with Azure SQL Managed Instance / Azure SQL Database a plus.
Participate in migration or modernization initiatives.Qualifications (Required)
3–6 years of hands-on experience as an MSSQL DBA in production environments.Strong knowledge of SQL Server 2016 / 2019 / 2022 administration, T‑SQL , indexing, statistics, and query optimization.Experience with Always On Availability Groups , backups / restores, and SQL Server Security (encryption, auditing).Proficiency with Windows Server , Active Directory , and networking basics (DNS, TCP / IP).Experience with PowerShell scripting and SQL Server Agent job management.Familiarity with monitoring / observability tools (native + third-party).Excellent documentation , communication, and stakeholder collaboration skills.Nice-to-Have (Preferred)
Exposure to Azure SQL (PaaS / MI), AWS RDS for SQL Server , or Kubernetes (SQL on containers).Experience with SSIS , SSRS , SSAS (or modern equivalents).Knowledge of ETL / ELT patterns , data warehousing, or BI tooling.Experience with DevOps / CI-CD for databases (Git, pipelines, Redgate, SSDT).Scripting in Python or Bash , and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform / ARM).Certifications : Microsoft Certified : Azure Database Administrator Associate , DP-300 , or MCSA / MCSE (legacy).Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering , or equivalent experience.Work Eligibility
