Under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager, Surgery Department, the Central Supply Technician is responsible for planning, organizing and directing the daily activities of the Central Supply department to provide for processing instrument trays and other supplies necessary for surgical procedures and for other areas within the facility.
Requirements
- Cleans, organizes and sterilizes instruments and equipment's required by the surgery department to ensure ready availability for any procedure. Applies knowledge of specialized instruments, equipment's and supplies utilized for patient care in the surgical department. Applies basic knowledge of infection control principles in the cleaning, disinfecting and stocking of all sterile equipment and supplies.
- Utilizes all sterilization equipment (autoclave, flasher, Steris, sterrad, etc.) in accordance with operational standard. Ensures that all sterilized items have required sterilization monitors to validate sterilization. Maintains accurate records of all sterilization procedures with immediate notification of the Nurse Manager of equipment problems or any potential lack of adequate sterilization of items.
- Ensures accurate labeling of processed instruments and supplies. Ensures that preventive maintenance and all quality controls are provided for disinfecting and sterilizing equipment. Ensures adequate amounts of equipment and supplies in the different areas of the department with reordering and restocking as indicated, in collaboration with the Nurse Manager. Utilizes all cleaning products according to guidelines to provide for appropriate cleaning and disinfection of equipment while preventing exposure to chemicals.
- Assists the Nurse Manager in maintaining the MSDS book for central supply solutions. Provides assistance to other personnel in the Department when available, including patient care and housekeeping.
