DEFINITION
Under supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor, the Lead Facilities Engineer performs preventive maintenance, troubleshoots, diagnoses, and repairs District buildings, facilities, fixtures, equipment, and property. This position may also direct the work of Facilities Maintenance Technicians.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives direction from Facilities Maintenance Supervisor and management personnel. May provide direction to subordinate staff.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
This position performs skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled maintenance and repair of District property and facilities. It utilizes specialized knowledge and expertise in HVAC, carpentry, painting, landscaping, masonry, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems maintenance and repair. It also performs a variety of maintenance work to repair and remodel facilities, electrical and mechanical systems, equipment, and fixtures. This includes, but is not limited to, the Operations Maintenance Facility, District offices, passenger stations, park and ride lots, landscaping, fences and other trackside areas. This position will be responsible for work activities on various shifts, weekends, and holidays to ensure safe and efficient transportation to the public.

- Performs maintenance of trackside structures, including cleaning and repair of walls,
windows, floors and restrooms.
Performs skilled and semi-skilled repairs of structures, fencing and guardrails.Installs, maintains, repairs and modifies a wide variety of heating and refrigeration equipment; maintains and adjusts associated electrical, electronic, pneumatic and hydraulic control systems.In-depth troubleshooting of HVAC and other electrical or electronic systems.Under guidance of Facilities Supervisor, leads complex maintenance tasks, troubleshooting and repairs at movable railroad bridge.May direct the work activities of Facilities Maintenance Technicians on a given shift, task or project as assigned.Performs administrative duties as required in the absence of the Facilities Supervisor.Prepares, issues and collects daily operational documents.
Responds to calls for maintenance assistance after regular work hours, on holidays and weekends.Inspects equipment for maintenance needs, makes basic repairs to ensure safety, and places barricades or signs to ensure patron safety.Uses diagnostic test equipment and precision measuring devices in the course of work.Reads and interprets diagrams, engineering drawings, manuals and schematics and works orders.Measures, tests and inspects completed work to confirm adherence to specifications.Inspects and reports problems with District facilities and equipment.Keeps Park and ride lots and other trackside areas clean and free of litter.Maintains trackside landscaping using various power and hand tools; applies fertilizers or herbicides as needed.Performs manual labor.Operates, services and maintains gardening, janitorial and related tools and equipment.Operates a computer for related data input and retrieval.Safely operates SMART motor vehicles, in the course of performing assigned dutiesReferences parts catalogues and other sources to determine correct parts for specific applications.Maintains work area in a clean and orderly fashion.Follows proper safety procedures, answers patron questions regarding work activity.Safely operates equipment; may operate forklift, cranes and other equipment as required.Requests supplies through supervisor or from stock.Performs other related duties as required.Requirements

Education :
Must possess a high school diploma, GED or recognized equivalent.Experience :
Minimum three years full time equivalent journey level facility maintenance experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of varied industrial and mechanical systems and equipment, such as heating, lighting, air conditioning and ventilation or skilled construction work.Or, two years of related journey level work experience plus successful completion of a post-secondary Mechanical-Electrical Technology Certification Program.Minimum 2 years' experience in a railroad environmentLicenses and Certifications :
Possession of a valid California's drivers' license (or ability to obtain one within 60 days of employment).Satisfactory driving record :o No more than two moving violations and / or "at fault" accidents within the last 3 years;o No "at fault" in a fatal accident within the past 5 years;o No leaving the scene of an accident within the past 3 years;o No DUI's or Reckless Driving codes within the last 7 years on the current DMV printout.
Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment medical exam, including a urinalysis drug test.Skill In :
Interpreting and applying oral and written instructions in a consistent manner.Basic computer usage including Microsoft Outlook.Utilizing a computer-based maintenance management system.Diagnosing operational problems in heavy industrial, mechanical, electro / mechanical and HVAC equipment and systems and determining parts and labor needed for repair.Performing preventative maintenance on mechanical systems and equipment.Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, manuals, and work orders.Knowledge of :
