Latin Teacher

Nativity (nativityhs.org) is a classical Catholic high school in San Francisco that opened in 2024 with an exceptional faculty that offers students a unique, focused, and classical learning environment.

We seek a C1 fluency level (Reading, Oral, Written and Composition) Latin instructor for Nativity’s freshman, sophomore and junior classes for the 2026-2027 academic year. As the foundational romance language, Latin is a core component of our classical curriculum.

The aim of the Latin program is to set students on a path toward AP Latin proficiency. Ultimately, your language skills, teaching technique and resolve will reflect Nativity’s mission and our classroom culture. Applicants who prefer part-time work will be considered.

Responsibilities

This role shall include the following duties:

• Teach up to four sections of 15-20 students, 50 minutes of class instruction per day, five days per week, Monday-Friday (~37 teaching weeks per academic year).
• Develop lesson plans for regular review.
• Attend faculty meetings and in-service days when needed.
• Provide office hours and tutoring for students as needed.
• Participate in supporting the student experience at Nativity.

Our founding teachers will shape Nativity from its inception, leaving an enduring legacy. Preferred qualifications include prior experience teaching Latin as well as graduate level Latin studies.

Position Details

Compensation shall be competitive with other San Francisco high schools. For exceptional full-time candidates with housing needs we can offer high quality housing in close proximity to the Nativity campus.

About Nativity

Nativity was formed in November of 2022 as a result of the community’s desire for a Classical Catholic high school in the city. It welcomed its first class of students in August 2024. Class sizes are 20 maximum per classroom and affordable tuition makes the school accessible to a wide range of income levels. Nativity’s board of directors comprises five optimistic and grateful people who embody a “working board” mentality in support of the school and its students. Nativity is also fortunate to have an accomplished Advisory board.

Nativity is an independent Catholic school formally recognized and supported by the Archdiocese of San Francisco. It offers a student experience that is unique to the area. While classical in its foundations, Nativity also prioritizes forming students in virtue and faith, creating a holistic and academically rigorous environment.
