QUALIFICATIONS:
1. New Jersey Certificate: Math Specialist
2. New Jersey Certificate: Teacher of Elementary School
3. Minimum of five years' successful teaching experience
4. Such alternatives as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: K-4 SUPERVISOR OF ELEMENTARY EDUCATION for matters pertaining to district-wide responsibilities.
BUILDING PRINCIPAL in matters pertaining to building level
responsibilities.
JOB GOAL:
To provide instructional services, in-service training, and support that will enable each student in the district to master the math skills appropriate to age, grade level, and individual capacity.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develops and implements a diagnostic process to identify students in the primary grades in need of early intervention to develop appropriate grade-level skills in math.
2. Develops and implements individual instructional programs for the identified students.
3. Implements the individual intervention and support programs that will enable the identified students to develop the appropriate strategies for success in math.
4. Develops and implements a process for monitoring the progress of students in the program.
5. Interprets identified students’ needs and progress in math to the classroom teacher and the parent.
6. Confers with parents concerning individual students having special math challenges and with parents generally about the math program.
7. Develops and implements a process for monitoring the progress of students discontinued from the program.
8. Develops and maintains records and reports as are necessary for the assessment of the program’s effectiveness.
9. Conducts in-service workshops and demonstrations with regard to methods and materials appropriate to various levels of math instruction.
10. Models math instruction in classrooms, and, upon request of principals and/or teachers, helps develop strategies to improve math instruction.
11. Assists in developing recommendations for the adoption and use of varied instructional materials, including textbooks, reference works, kits, trade books, and audiovisual/technological aids.
12. Consults with members of the Child Study Team and I&RS Committee.
13. Interprets, as appropriate, test results and statistical data concerning the math program to the administration, staff, and public.
14. Establishes a broadly based math materials center, including a professional library on math.
15. Assumes other appropriate professional responsibilities as delegated by the Supervisor of Elementary Education and/or principal.
